Hmm, you got a point there. Players placed in the players folder under the main Egoboo folder (and not under application data), will be visible for everyone as normal.
One solution would be to place the private files in the Shared Application data instead of the User Application Data folder (but then you lose the benefits for protecting your saves from other users, etc.)

No success with the new binary. I don't get any error messages, but my anti-virus program won't let me run it under any circumstances, thinking it's a virus. Anytime I try to, it simply gets deleted.

oh no. That shouldn't be true. It seems to be a law of software developing that every bugfix brings some new bugs... the "pick up random shopkeepers, guards or cobols, export them and let your savegame be destroyed" bug was fixed, and now... that reminds me of the spellbook skin thing in 2.6.8 (or so!?)
But it's no problem. Shit happens, and I'm confident that you will fix those bugs!
