Spells:

Nature's Blessing
-> Removes most types of status ailments and debuffs from the target and additionally restores [1d6 ± WIL] HP.

Entangle
-> Forces all enemies to make an [AGI ± VIT] check vs the caster's [DEX ± WIL]. Any targets failing the check are immobilized for [2 ± INT/5] turns and lose their AC dodge bonus for the duration of the effect.

Animate Weapon
-> The target has to be an inanimate object that can be used as a weapon.
The target object is animated, receives the ability to fly and is under control of the caster.
The object is treated as a targetable member of battle with [10 ± INT/2 ± WIL] HP, [INT] AC and [INT ± WIL] Init and has complete immunity to status ailments and debuffs, but cannot be healed.
Offensively, it deals damage equal to [its innate Dmg range ± WIL/2] and has Hit equal to [its innate Hit stat ± INT]. Animated objects cannot perform maneuvers and thus have no MR stat.
The target object remains animated until its HP drop to 0 or it is manually dismissed by the caster. In both cases, the object crumbles to dust and cannot be retrieved.
This is a channeling spell. As long as the target object remains animated, the spellpoint used for this spell cannot be recovered.

Enchant Weapon
-> The target has to be an object that can be used as a weapon. (It can be animated.)
The target object is enchanted with magic, bestowing a [WIL/2] bonus to Dmg and an [INT] bonus to Hit upon it. If desired, it can additionally receive an elemental affinity.
The target object remains enchanted until it is destroyed or the enchantment is manually cancelled.
This is a channeling spell. As long as the target object remains enchanted, the spellpoint used for this spell cannot be recovered.
Abilities (275/300 AP spent):

Dryad's Curse [ Active ] [ 100 AP ]
-> This ability can only be used if the effects of "Wilting Flower" are not currently suppressed by medicine.
Forces all enemies to make a WIL check against Hana's WIL+2.
If they succeed, they are stunned for a turn.
If they fail, they (as well as all of their possessions) are permanently transformed into inanimate plants, thus eliminating them from combat. The type of plant is dependent on the target's characteristics and can be anything from a flower to a tree.
However, using this ability damages Hana's VIT by 5 and causes an immediate VIT check from "Wilting Flower".
Furthermore, this ability has no effect on embodiments of the forest, as well as spirits and other entities without a corporeal form.

Phantasmal Barrier [ Active ] [ 80 AP / use ] [ Not learned ]
-> Grants the target a shield capable of distorting and defying reality, inverting all harmful effects of the next hit taken (damage becomes healing, debuffs become buffs, etc.).
If an effect cannot be converted into something positive, it is instead nullified altogether.

Mirror Veil [ Sustained ] [ 70 AP ]
-> While active, as long as Hana has at least one spellpoint remaining, any projectile-based attack or spell aimed at Hana's party first has to pass a WIL vs. WIL check against Hana. If the attacker fails this check, one of Hana's spellpoints is consumed and the attack is reflected back at the attacker (and their allies, if applicable) with 50% increased potency and an additional +5 bonus to Hit.
This ability is automatically disabled if Hana runs out of spellpoints.

Gift of the Spirits [ Passive ] [ 80 AP ]
-> Hana has the ability to regenerate mana at an unnatural rate while resting.
During combat, as long as Hana has no sustained abilities active, any unused minor action generates 1 Focus Point, while any unused major action generates 2. Every hour passed outside of combat also generates 1 Focus Point, or 2 while camping.
Every set of 5 Focus Points is automatically converted to a spellpoint.
Focus points will not accumulate if Hana isn't actually missing any spellpoints, and Focus Points that would go beyond Hana's spellpoint cap are lost.

Pact of the Spirits [ Passive ] [ 100 AP ]
-> Hana is accompanied by two familiars at all times, which take the form of sentient glowing orbs with transculent wings resembling those of a butterfly, roughly the size of a fist. They're beings of pure magic, sustained by Hana's mana - they cannot leave her vicinity for more than a few minutes at a time, and if she dies, they will disappear.
They do, however, have their own will and reasoning, and although they will try to protect Hana to the best of their abilities, she does not have direct control over them.
The white one, called Lux, will cast supportive magic to bolster the strength and defenses of Hana and her allies, choosing from a variety of buffs and other trickery.
The black one, called Nox, will cast disruptive magic to weaken Hana's foes, trying to inflict a variety of status ailments and debuffs.
Both of them will act independently from Hana - once per turn each - and share her attributes to determine the effectiveness of their spells.
Although these familiars do not require enough mana to actively drain Hana's reserves, they do take up some magical power that she can never tap into, lowering her maximum spell points by 2.
If the maximum spell point reduction from this ability were to somehow drop Hana's maximum spell points to -1 or less, her familiars will disappear and she will lose consciousness until she regains enough maximum spell points to sustain them.

Wilting Flower [ Passive ] [ +75 AP ]
-> Hana suffers from an incurable disease that is slowly eating away at her life.
Its effects can be suppressed with special medicine, but will begin anew as soon as she goes for a full day without.
When not under the effects of the medicine...
- ...she receives one point of attribute damage to a random attribute whenever she takes HP damage.
- ...HP and attribute damage will not regenerate through natural means. (Potions, spells, etc. will still work as normal.)
- ...she periodically (roughly once per day) has to pass a VIT check against a DC of 10; if she fails it, her VIT is damaged by 1d4 and her max HP are affected accordingly. If this drops her VIT to -6 or less, she will additionally pass out for a few hours. If Hana fails three or more of these checks and passes out as a result, she dies.
Taking medicine will reset the number of failed checks, and resting while under the effects of the medicine will allow Hana to recover HP and attribute damage as normal.
Hana (as well as anyone else with basic knowledge of medicine and/or herbs) is capable of making this medicine herself given the right ingredients, a spellpoint and an hour of time.
After the king was done with his speech, Hana finally turned to the people she would be accompanying for the foreseeable future and gave them a bit of a closer look.
Tabithe seemed humble, friendly and easygoing, yet she was definitely no slouch with the blade. There was no doubt she would prove to be a reliable ally, but maybe they could even become friends.
Reylos, on the other hand, seemed a bit more... unsociable? While she hadn't necessarily been unfriendly, the almost bored expression she was wearing while listening to the king made her appear a bit stand-offish. Hopefully she was the type of person who just needed some time to warm up to others.

Lost in her own thoughts, Hana needed a moment to realize that Tabithe was waiting for a reply.
"...oh! No, I don't think there's anything that can't wait until after the festivities, haha."
Right, maybe she ought to use this opportunity to enjoy herself - given that she was used to living off the land, it wasn't often that she had the chance to eat pastries, let alone ones as extravagant as those offered tonight!

Given that she probably won't need the lance for the remainder of the evening, Hana finally cancels both of her ongoing spells.

Hana's lance crumbles to dust.

As you look towards the feast, you notice the area where you fought
has been cleaned up already, apparently during the speech.
The only sign left is the broken window and scorch marks on the floor.

As make your way through the crowd, you hear some of their conversation.

"Did you see that girl with the flying lance?"
"Did you see that one kick that thing in the face?"
"Did you see that one set the floor on fire?" (laughter)

"The king looks rather dashing today, do you think he's supposed to be a vampire?"
"The queen looks like a ghost, it's a wonder she even showed up today."
"No sign of the princess, but it's been forever since she's come."

"Those Shadowcasters are really scary, where do they get off trying to resurrect Deimos?
Who'd want to do such a thing?"
"They practice evil magic, they do."

The banquet tables are piled high with all kinds of food from all over Imsant.
I'll just leave the food up to your imaginations. There's something for everyone (including pastry, apparently.)

Abilities: [ 300/300 AP spent ]

The Art of the Blade [ Passive ] [ 3 Stances: 240 80 AP ]
Tabithe's prowess in combat is founded on the myriad stances she employs.
-> Tabithe has a set of Sustained abilities denoted by "Stance:".
-> Tabithe may have up to one Stance ability active at once.
-> As long as Tabithe has this ability, only [ 100 / no. of Stance abilities learned ]% of the total AP cost of all Stance abilities is counted against Tabithe's total AP.

Stance: Royal Guard [ Sustained ] [ 100 AP ]
When unfettered by heavy armour, Tabithe's weapon is an instrument of defense as well as offense.
-> Tabithe must be two-handing her weapon and not be wearing armour with a Dex penalty to activate Royal Guard.
-> The Str requirement for her wielded weapon is added to Tabithe's AC.

Stance: Denting Blows [ Sustained ] [ 80 AP ]
Tabithe maximises the destructive capabilities of heavy weapons to overcome any fortification.
-> Tabithe must be two-handing a weapon with a Str requirement to activate Denting Blows.
-> Her weapon attacks ignore 1 of her target's AC.
-> A missed weapon attack will increase the AC ignored by 2, while a hit will increase it by 1.
-> The AC ignored resets to 1 if Tabithe attacks a different enemy.
With focus, Tabithe can find the stamina to fight where others cannot.

-> Every second turn Tabithe has Inner Quiet active, she may use an ability she has 0 uses left for.
-> Each ability can only be used through Inner Quiet once per battle.

Crushing Steel [ Passive ] [ 90 AP ]
The destructive power of Tabithe's choice of arms is felt to the fullest when she truly outmatches her foes' defense.
-> If Tabithe's Hit roll total exceeds her target's AC roll total by 7 or more, the damage dealt is increased by her weapon's Str requirement. [ 40 AP ]
-> The bonus damage is applied again for each additional 3 that the target's AC roll is exceeded by. [ 50 AP ]
[/s]

Broad Strokes [ Passive ] [ 80 AP ]
When appropriately armed, Tabithe is capable of engaging multiple foes.
-> If Tabithe is two-handing a weapon with a Str requirement, she may target two foes at once with a weapon attack.
-> Each target will make their own AC check, while Tabithe's Hit roll will apply to both.
-> Attacks made against multiple targets will have -2 Hit and deal -2 damage.

Lunge [ Active - 1 use ] [ 60 AP per use ]
When Tabithe adds inertia to her strike, she finds herself within reach of even protected foes.
-> Tabithe makes a melee attack which deals 1.5x Maximised damage.
-> If it hits, and Tabithe is in the Front row, she moves to the Enemy Front row for the duration of her next turn, and returns to the Front row at its end.

Groundhouse [ Active - 2 uses ] [40 AP per use]
Tabithe's martial prowess is supplanted by the Element of her homeland.
-> Tabithe makes an unarmed attack with 1-3 Dmg and +2 Hit as a minor action.
-> If her target's Earth affinity is Weak, they are stunned for their next turn when hit.
-> If her target's Earth affinity is Normal, they have no minor action during their next turn when hit.

The other two seem to agree with the notion that this amazing food should be sampled. Tabithe's stomach growls impatiently -- the prelude to a feast fit for a... hero. There's that word again...
Not of a mind to be lost in thought right now, however, she and her appetite descend upon the banquet.

Tabithe attempts to join one or both of the others to eat, and at a glance it seems she'll be eating for quite a while -- she appears to have methodically sought out a wing or flank from each and every offering of meat that the King's generosity has brought to the dinner table, and each of them sit accompanied by bread, cheese, and roasted vegetables. Her priorities are two-fold -- try as many different things as possible, and make all of them as nutritious as they are nourishing. One could certainly guess that she knows well what it's like to not be afforded these luxuries.
Such a heaping serve couldn't be eaten neatly even if Tabithe tried, but she is clearly not trying, in service of fully enjoying the meal. Noisily gulping down an impressive mouthful and scarcely pausing before the next, she asks: (Assuming she has company.)
"So, if I can ashk, what are your shtories?"

Reylos ignores the crowd, annoyed by their gossip.

Surveying the meat and vegetables, Reylos gets
some ham and a corn on the cob, and adds a bread roll.
For dessert she gets pie, passing over pumpkin and pecan for sweet potato with pecans.

Tabithe wants to know more about her companions,
at least, that seems to be what she said through her mouthful of food.

Reylos replies.
"I'm just a mercenary from around here, the capital.
There's really not much to tell."

At least, nothing she was going to tell.
She picks up her corn and begins to eat it.

While Tabithe stuffed herself with incredible amounts of food - particularly meat - Reylos seemed a bit more reserved in that regard, too. Hana herself meanwhile was perfectly content with just a few pastries and a piece of fruit cake - she didn't want to risk ending up with a stomachache by overeating.

Given the personality Tabithe had displayed so far, Hana wasn't particularly surprised when she was the first one to try and make conversation. While Reylos didn't seem to make much of an attempt to hide her disinterest, Hana hesitated for a different reason - she didn't want to sour the mood with a sob story about herself.
"Ah, it's a bit... complicated.
This may sound pretty vain, but to put it as simply as possible, the idea of fame appeals to me. While I have no prior combat experience or anything, I figured this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so I accepted without really thinking very hard about what I got myself into, haha..."

In a bit more of a hushed tone, she added:
"...but with all that said, don't you think all of this is kinda surreal? Not just the incident with those demons, but perhaps more so the King's response to it. If the task we were given really is as important as he claims, why would he send three strangers he just met instead of, say, one of his trusted generals? It just... doesn't add up."

Reylos has about as much to say as Tabithe was expecting -- which is to say, not much. She's not at all surprised to hear that they come from mercenary work.
Next, Tabithe gently snorts when Hana's explanation manages to make her sound rather dubious in sidestepping what she doesn't want to say. She couldn't mistrust this young girl even if she wanted to, and is happy to let her keep her secrets, simply finding it amusing.
She stops just short of pouring water into her gullet directly from the decanter, finally taking a moment of pause at Hana then expressing her wariness.
"I know what you mean -- it's somewhere between too good to be true and too convenient to be taken at face value."
She leans back a little in her chair, thinking it may be time to let her stomach do its job in peace for now.
"I've probably all but said it outright, but I'm pretty much a freebird, or a drifter -- for better or worse. Meaning, sometimes I choose to take things in stride and sometimes I have to..."
She smiles a big, but honest, smile.
"But while I'm sure we haven't got the whole story, it's hard to imagine that just going with it will come back to bite us. It seems to me like we can take care of ourselves just fine, right?"

Spoiler: Thoughts
Reylos listens to Hana thoughtfully,
but looks at her food, not Hana.
(Complicated, huh? There's a story there..)
(Hana did pretty well for herself in that fight,
and combat experience isn't the only thing
needed on an adventure like this.)
(Why would he send strangers? Because he has no trusted generals.
He trusts only himself...)
"Nuts,"
Reylos mutters while looking at her pie.
(He's nuts..)

(Convenient, hm..)
While Tabithe's speaking, she continues looking ahead,
becoming lost in thought.
(So Tabithe drifted into the tournament,
then after me into the hall.
Hana came here.. seeking fame? That can't be all, but... whatever.)

They didn't have the whole story, no..
Reylos could them what she knew, but why bother?
It wouldn't change their mission.
It'd be a great bother, and why should they believe her anyway?
They had no reason to trust her, but she'd trust them,
as much as she would any comrade.
Whatever Hana's story was, she was a good person.
Tabithe was honest and straightforward,
in whatever direction she found herself drifting.

Finally, she turns to Tabithe and replies, "You're right.
We'll take whatever's thrown at us."
Reylos listens to Hana thoughtfully,

Tabithe's reaction caused Hana to tilt her head with an embarassed smile. She couldn't shake the feeling that her choice of words might have given them the wrong impression of her... hopefully this wouldn't impact their relationship in the future.

Tabithe's own story, on the other hand, suited her personality pretty much perfectly - but Hana found it difficult to display the same self-confidence the self-proclaimed freebird had and that Reylos seemed to share.
"...I don't doubt that you two can, but I'm not as sure when it comes to myself, haha...
...I just hope I won't be a burden..."

Tabithe makes a show of widening her eyes as Hana suggests that she might not be as capable as the fighters in front of her.
"Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure that lance was more effective when it wasn't being wielded by a person!"
She sits forward, leaning on an elbow. She realises, speaking to a young girl like this, that it really has been a few years since she finished growing and set out, depending on herself. It makes her want to help Hana find a bit of that same confidence... thinking again about the motivation that Hana declared, Tabithe wonders if the kid doesn't simply want to make some sort of difference. Her slight smile is just as much to herself as it is to Hana.
"I know there's a lot more to it than that, but I'm sure there's plenty of possibility -- just try to believe in yourself."
Tabithe works her way through one more roasted sweet potato... though she has decelerated considerably by the end. When she tries to raise herself to walk the meal off a bit, she just as nearly doubles over. She supposes she shouldn't be surprised if all this eating has brought with it a fearsome cramp.
"Uch... I might have overdone it..."
Glancing around, she tries to find the person she should speak to about somewhere to lie down...
"If it's all the same, I'll see you two in the morning...?"

There, she pauses only long enough to remove her cloak, boots, gloves, and belt before lying flat on her back on top of the covers, holding her gut, and eventually falls asleep. Honestly, she thinks to herself, with everything that went on, something to knock me out properly was probably needed if I wanted to sleep at all...

100 gold

Attributes:
-2 Strength
±0 Dexterity
+2 Agility
-3 Vitality
+4 Intellect
+4 Willpower
±0 Perception
Hana gave her two compansions an embarassed smile. While it was reassuring that both of them - even Reylos - were trying to encourage her, they probably did so because she had made them worry... which is something she had wanted to avoid! The little girl sighed. She really needed to work on her self-confidence... ...or at least on not letting her lack of it show.
"Right. Good night, you two."
However, it took until the butler offered to show the three of them to their rooms that it really hit Hana that she would apparently be spending the night at the castle, reminding her yet again that something about all of this was... off. Very off.
...but she couldn't just simply refuse the offer.
"Uhm... thanks, I'd like to take you up on that offer as well, then. I'm a little tired after all of that, haha..."

Party
 • Reylos (pf2222) .._ | 12/12 | Lv 0.88 | [Cover] |
 • Tabithe (AoD) ..__ | 16/16 | Lv 0.90 | [Front] |
 • Hana (Shade) ...__ | 11/11 | Lv 0.90 | [Cover] |
Location: Dezas Castle
Time: Morning
Day 1
300 gold
"Later."
Reylos walks away.

@Reylos:
Spoiler:
Reylos walks out of the castle,
and sets off toward the inn.
She notices a dark-robed group following her,
takes a detour and waits until they're alone
to turn around and ask:
"Why did you follow me?"

"We wanted to know if you had any news."
"What news? You heard about the quest, didn't you?"
"You're really going to go, Somath?"
"Of course. It's hardly different from what I usually do."
(Well, maybe a bit.)

"What about those demons? Do you know who summoned them?"
She shakes her head. "..I couldn't tell you."

"...Is that all you wanted?
I'll try to keep in touch, if I have anything to report..."
(..it just might be more difficult than usual.)

She turns away.
"Take care, then."
She wished people would stop telling her that.

In the inn, Reylos goes to the innkeeper and cancels her room,
as she won't be needing it anymore.
The inn is rather crowded tonight,
and she quickly escapes those who wish to detain her,
asking if she's one'a them who got sent on that quest.

Then she heads back to the castle
and is shown to her room.

She stares out the window, grateful to have a window.
It's late, and she should sleep.
Whichever direction they headed tomorrow, it'd be a long day.
The butler shows Tabithe and Hana to their rooms.
The night passes.
Then the sun rises.

Hana's medicine will wear off soon. (I'm assuming she took some the previous morning.)
Figured I should move things forward a bit, so the butler of plot advancement is back.
Feel free to RP things anyway.

When the three wake up, the butler again appears
to inform them that the king wishes to speak to them.
He takes them to the audience chamber and shows himself out.
You face the king and queen again.
The king says "Well, heroes? Do you understand your quest?"
