Re: The totally bestest thread ever (for random stuff)
2.2.4 and 2.3.6 I seem to remember as being the stablest/most playable.

Re: The totally bestest thread ever (for random stuff)
It’s been ages since I’ve played a highly stable version, probably way back when Mister Bishop was still working on the project (either him or somebody shortly after him). I just relooked at Zefz’s designer register. Man, this has quite a history. It’s the same old project, but it’s been inherited and continuously updated by various people. It’s like an old house that’s been renovated several times by separate people: it’s the same house, but it’s also quite different, now. If by some chance the previous owners eventually returned, they’d get a strange mixture of nostalgia and surprise. It’s amazing how time transforms the old.

I'm pretty sure the last truly stable version was 2.6.8 (although I remember the subforge revisions up to some point shortly before 2.8.0 was released to be even better - unfortunately, I don't think there's any good way to access those at this point); it was actually playable, but the demon lord in the Abyss was pretty much impossible to defeat because somebody thought it'd be incredibly funny to make a boss with super-ridiculous resistances regen like 12 HP per second. It was also missing basically all of the new modules that people only really started making at around that point.

There's a 2.8.0 beta on SourceForge, and there is, of course, the SVN (2.8.0 is roughly r1166, the beta is roughly r1118, 2.7.4 is roughly r665. These are based on the Windows packages' dates alone).

Is this just "back from the dead" day or something?

I’d expect that one to take place in October.
I still check this forum occasionally, but I’d post here more frequently if I knew how to remake myself useful to the community.

This isn't a very goal-oriented community at this point, so usefulness isn't too meaningful a criterion.
Hey Shade! I was recently thinking of you because both protagonists of Ys Origin seem like the kind of characters you play in PnPs.

Must be your imagination!Agent of Dread wrote:Is this just "back from the dead" day or something?
Neither Yunica nor Hugo really resemble my own RPG/PnP characters much at this point. I pretty much stopped playing male characters because whenever I try, they always devolve to infallible badasses for some reason, and my female characters rarely actually swing around weapons.octagon wrote:Hey Shade! Good to hear from you again, at any rate.
Unrelated: I bought a PS4 and Bloodborne, and I feel like it will have been worth it for this game alone, because god damn.

I still haven't played Dark Souls beyond the first boss because I didn't have my controller around whenever I wanted to and the camera is unmanageable with a keyboard.Agent of Dread wrote:Good to hear from you again, at any rate.

Fun fact: Initially I couldn't find the first decent weapon and due to the reputation of this game, thought I had to kill the boss with the wooden starting thing that takes 10 hits to defeat the most basic enemies.
So I can't say much about Bloodborne, but it definitely looks promising.

I once talked to someone who was wholly convinced new players weren't expected to find your character's starting gear before killing the boss.
Even though the game puts a message on the ground telling you to get the hell out of there.

Oh yeah, before I forget:
In case the 2.8.0 beta doesn't work, is there a way to access the SVN without re-downloading the program I used to use for it?penguinflyer5234 wrote:There's a 2.8.0 beta on SourceForge, and there is, of course, the SVN (2.8.0 is roughly r1166, the beta is roughly r1118, 2.7.4 is roughly r665. http://sourceforge.net/p/egoboo/svn/[revision number]/tarball?path=/branches/2.6.x creates a zip file for any revision from ~247 to 1338 (contains only the source and data files)
http://egoboo.sourceforge.net/SVN_builds/egoboo-svn-r[revision number].exe for the windows executable. (valid revisions are 1090, 1092, 1106, 1111, 1121, 1144, 1152, 1166, 1219, 1260, and some others)

Re: The totally bestest thread ever (for random stuff)
Someone messaged my Facebook page asking if I could dig them out one of the old SoulFu builds yesterday.
It was a really strange experience.
