I'm of course biased about the ones I played, but I still liked ToaP the best. I think it's one of the few PnPs we had where it avoided being extremely dark or extremely comical, and the well done climax at the end made it actually feel complete instead of abruptly ended like, for example, the original dark dawn. The party's personalities fit together perfectly (where did unliketea go? He was awesome. D:) and, other than our party's inability to deal killing blows, it was functional to the point where battles were fairly easy and we could roleplay them instead of struggling to survive in each one. While all the interesting settings, steampunk, pirates, and everything else are all fun every once in a while, they all end up feeling boring when we use them for every PnP, and I liked the classic, overworld ragtag group of adventurers feel this PnP had. I'm sure there were old ones that could have been as good as it, but I haven't seen them, so I'm not inclined to respond. I've liked Deliverance so far, but I'd like some time to interact with NPCs and PCs out of combat given so far we've been consistently riding the ActionRoller 5000 the whole time.
Now that I look back, Cime's second Blackheart PnP did a good job of dark/not dark enough balance.
EDIT: Really, though, the favorite PnP thing comes from where the GM and players focused on individual guys and let us have our moments of awesome.
-My favorite part of ToaP was the ending, mainly because I made myself the focus of it by betraying the party.
-AoD made himself the focus of the party by killing me in TAP.
-Hood became the leader in TDR, awesome backstory and everything, so a lot of the game revolved around his decisions.
Having individual moments for each character makes us feel less like a part of the big, boring party and more like individuals in a group with our own input.

In storytelling as in all good media, you need an entrance that the crowd will remember.
You'll have time to sit down and drink tea with the NPCs soon enough.

Tea? Oooh, what kind?
It's also good when the GM sends a message, and the player gets it. Like that slingshot with 'Gary' engraved on it which I made Drewund overract to in Blackheart v2.

That was just me exploring messing with people's conscience as a storytelling device.Agent of Dread wrote:It's also good when the GM sends a message, and the player gets it. Like that slingshot with 'Gary' engraved on it which I made Drewund overract to in Blackheart v2.

I read the original PnP, the full thing, like 3 times. The system was so fun and it was really active.
