Surlak, Lv0 [10] Extortionist [Cover]
15/15 HP
Spellpoints: ■■
+1 DMG | +2 HIT | +2 AC
Weapon: Engraved Dagger [2-5 Dmg]
Armor: Auburn Cloak [1 AC, +1 to magic resistance checks]
Spoiler:
Inventory...[ 03/10 ]
- 3x Stinging Salve (restores 20 HP over 2 turns, but stuns for 1 turn)

Spellbook...[ 02/02 ]
- Void Collapse - Creates a nucleus of extreme gravity for a split second, ripping apart anyone standing too close for 1-8+WILx3 DMG. Particularly massive opponents resist some of the damage of this spell, while particularly small targets receive greater harm.
- Ripline - A thick chain of arcane matter grabs an enemy and attempts to drag them towards the caster, dealing 1-6+WILL damage. If the target fails a VIT check against the caster's INT, they are pulled forward: Targets in the cover row are dragged to the front, and targets in the front row fall down, losing their dodge +AC and becoming vulnerable to attacks until they can get up.
Active Abilities
- Corner [0/1]: Surlak isolates an enemy, reducing their AC by 2 and preventing them from being affected by their allies' support abilities for 2 turns. This is a minor action. (70 AP)
- Hostage [0/1]: Upon hitting a cornered enemy with a spell, Surlak can choose to make the spell nonlethal and stun them if they'd otherwise die, threatening to finish them off. The threat works much better if another cast of the spell could actually kill the target. (25 AP)
(If the spell doesn't actually connect, the skill isn't used.)

Mend [1/1] [curr: 2 turns]: Surlak ignores her wounds for just a moment, regaining up to 7 HP that are lost again after [INT] rounds. The expiration can't reduce health below 1. Overhealing during the effect will prevent the health loss. (70 AP)
Sustained Abilities
- Deterrence: Whenever an enemy dies, one random other enemy without a strong personal interest in the current battle may flee or surrender unless they pass a will test. Looking intimidating takes up a minor action every turn. (35 AP)
Passive Abilities
- Adaptible [curr: 2 AC, 1 dmg]: When running out of spell points, Surlak's WIL drops to zero and the points are distributed equally among AC and weapon damage (odd numbers increase AC first) for the remainder of the battle. (165 AP)

Conduit: Surlak can fuse additional energy into damaging spells, doing 50% less bonus damage for each spell point spent this way, min. 1 (if an example spell would do 8 damage, 4 conduit points would add 4+2+1+1). Overkill damage from the conduit bonus will affect another random hostile target. (50 AP)
Attributes:
STR: +2
DEX: -3
AGI: +2
VIT: -1
INT: +2
WIL: +3

Ability Points: 5

Scripts:
- target whoever seems the most important/could be killed this turn. preferrably target casters.
- corner the target, then spam vacuum on them, attack them when out of spell points

Description:

Surlak is wiry, fairly tall and around 30. She usually wears a red-brown coat. Her posture is upright and tense. Her face shows some battle scars with the biggest one running from her chin to her neck.

Surlak was raised to be a guardian by the Servants of the Wing, a sect notable for their belief that their religious duties are necessary for the continuity of the world.
She had always been obsessed with the thought that she was bound to meet a terrible end, and eventually she left her people, out of an impulse to face her apparent doom head-on as well as restlessness and curiosity.
Seeking to either steel herself so she could overcome her nightmares or just get her tormentous future over with, she took on various unpleasant and dangerous jobs, mostly as a bounty hunter or bodyguard, and made a habit of openly antagonizing people she disliked.
Despite her habit to seek out danger, Surlak prefers subduing her opponents to all-out combat, as having to kill and the very prospect of losing someone cause her great distress.
The more she enjoys life, the more she feels as though she's just delaying the inevitable.
Instead of hiding the terror that being set on fire is bound to cause, she channels it into anger.
"This is your last chance. Stop that machine and hand over that bloody thing, unless you feel like studying it some more with a crushed brainpan."
Surlak channels an implosion adjusted to harm the wizard badly but give him a last chance to reconsider. She doesn't know if the guardian can even be shut off, but it's worth a try.
Then she drops on the floor attempting to choke the flames.
Using Hostage obviously. Don't roll on the floor if it's not a minor action.

"I surrender!" the wizard exclaims, still lying on the floor, his face is now up but bruised heavily.
The wizard's guardian retreats to the his side and stands immobile next to him. Surlak quickly douses the fire that was spreading on her.
The wizard holds his hand to dismiss the last of the creatures, but by the time he does, Desmond has already cleaved it into two with his axe, and is now approaching the wizard rapidly. He crouches and grabs the wizard by the hair, tilting his head up.
"Where's the sword, you little shit?"
"Upstairs... on the desk in my study."
He loosens his grip and runs upstairs. You follow.

Battle Resolved

Surlak - Bonus exp:

The second floor of the cottage is stocked with shelves full of books, desks with various stones, ingredients and alchemical equipment. Another guardian, slightly shorter but far more heavily armored lies dormant on a stone desk in the side of the room.

The largest wooden work desk in the room, the one near the window, is full of scattered notes, open books and drawings. In the center of all the mess on the desk, lies a beautiful broadsword - it has a blue hilt with golden details and a shiny blue gem in the base of the blade. The round golden pommel has small black spikes coming from it, and the hilt guard is comprised of similar, but larger spikes. The blade is marked with ornate but unidentifiable runes throughout its length.

Desmond puts his axe away and picks up the sword confidently, holding it with both hands. The blade acquires a faint white glow and embers begin to dance around it.
Desmond seems very satisfied.
"This is the sword. Thank you. We can leave now."

"Phew." Still tense from the battle, Surlak takes a sweeping look at the desk without touching anything.
"I wanna look around first - this is kind of an interesting place. Hope that's okay with you."
She moves on to examine the guardian. Though inextricable from the circumstances of the group's presence here, snooping through a stranger's studies was a welcome diversion.
"In the meanwhile, I'd suggest you take a good look at the sword we're here for. It would be a shame if we went through all this trouble for a counterfeit artifact - though this kind of stuff isn't easy to make, I don't know enough about it to tell how much effort that guy would invest in securing it."

Erinelca was raised in a forest. When he was young his parents disappeared and left him a bow and some arrows. To survive he had to hunt and learn how to make arrows. Then the forest was set ablaze, causing Erinelca to want to become stronger to protect forests.
Erinelca looks outside the window, trying to distract himself from the memories when his forest was set ablaze.

Also, I'm supposed to have 9 HIT, 5 from stats, 4 from the bow; unless 4 extra hit came from somewhere else...

"Oh, don't worry, this is definetly the real deal."
He holds it a bit higher, the embers dancing around the sword intensify. He thrusts it in the air and a tongue of flame shoots forward a short distance in front of it and dissipates into the air.
"This is the one and only Spitfire."

You examine the dormant guardian. It lies in a rigid position on the solid stone slab, face up. It isn't as tall as the one you just fought, but what it lacks in height it makes up for in defence. There are very few exposed joints or visible weak areas, and the heavy plates are jagged and designed to divert blows and projectiles away. You can't quite identify what might be the method of bringing these metal juggernauts to life and under the wizard's control, but It has now become apparent to you that had the wizard completed this project earlier, you may not have lived to see this room at all.

In the meantime, Erinelca walks over to the window and looks outside at the city.
The wizard's cottage is just far enough from Hydegrim to be able to see its market square. You see people going about their day, merchants and craftsmen selling their wares to the citizenry and to passing adventurers, and guards patrol the streets. This city has a well developed, secure economy.

You then begin to hear slow, heavy footsteps from the floor below...

@PF5: Ah I see. Let me clarify. The three derived stats +DMG, HIT and AC that you list under your HP are based on the attributes of your character only. Bonuses from equipment that you're using is added saparatly during the attack, so they're not meant to be added up.

Surlak turns to the research notes.
"Whoops, that sounds like our host's machine is up again for some reason. I don't think it's worth staying any longer."
Priorities! Surlak could never quite get them right, and it's most frustrating. The second guardian made her all the more curious what this wizard might be researching, and a proper look at the documents would have been most informative.
There's no reason he'd be foolish enough to send the guardian against them in this wounded state, she tries to tell herself, but she can't get the thought out of her head and apprehensively goes downstairs after reading a single random page, trying to give herself no opportunity to decide that the window was the preferable exit.

As you hear the slow rumble of the Guardian ascending, you try to quickly gloss over the notes on the research desk. They contain various sketches of the sword from different angles, notes, some arcane formulas and symbols. You feel like there is much that a spellcaster could learn from all this, but you don't have the time to study the papers properly. Realizing this, you decide to read just one of the pages throughly.
Random luck roll: 94/100
The page seems to describe a magic spell. You attempt to memorize it.

==================================================
Surlak: INT check vs DC 15.
06 + 02 = 08
Failed.
==================================================

It appears to be some kind of fire spell that one is supposed to cast directly on a melee weapon, but you are simply too pressed for time to retain the information. Maybe if you ever saw it again it would be easier to learn the spell.

You head for the exit, and just as you reach the end of the room, the guardian ascends from the lower floor, holding the wizard in his arms. The wizard snarls at you, and gives Desmond a long, drawn out leer as they pass you. The guardian sets the wizard down and begins helping him tend to his injuries just as you leave the floor.
You pass through the scene of the fight. Desmond makes it a point to purposely pass through the bloodstain left by the wizard, creating a row of bloody footprints on his way out.

You leave the wizard's cottage.

Once you are some distance away, Desmond carefully sheaths the sword away.
"Thank you for your help. As we've agreed, here is your pay."
You receive 200 gold from Desmond. You split the money between the three of you: Svenn takes his share of 60 coins.

Quest Complete!
My Brother's Blade: Help Desmond retrieve his late brother's sword from the wizard in Hydegrim. Desmond anticipates heavy resistance.
+15 exp, +140 Gold

Pausing to see if anyone has input / wants to do something. Continuing later.

Surlak, Lv0 [53] Extortionist [Cover]
7/15 HP

(25 AP)
(If the spell doesn't actually connect, no skill use is consumed.)

Determined to either steel herself so she could overcome her nightmares or just get her tormentous future over with, she took on various unpleasant and dangerous jobs, mostly as a bounty hunter or bodyguard, and made a habit of openly antagonizing people she disliked.
Despite her habit to seek out danger, Surlak prefers subduing her opponents to all-out combat, as having to kill and the very prospect of losing someone cause her great distress.
The more she enjoys life, the more she feels as though she's just delaying the inevitable.

Surlak hungrily approaches the food stall, intending to visit the tavern and armorer next.
That sure was a post worth waiting for.
I'm really indecisive about those choices because I'm scrupulous about choosing unimportant options due to them causing unnecessary turn and thus a lot of delay... but my indecision keeps ending up stalling the game more.
I always want to select several options at once.
edit: added 3 extremely important tactics EXP i completely forgot about

Leather Vambraces (+1 AC) - 20 Gold - 1 left In stock
Reinforced Gauntlets (+2 Unarmed Dmg) - 20 Gold - 2 left In stock
Thigh Holster - 20 Gold - Extra equipped weapon slot for a small weapon (dagger, etc.) - 1 left In stock
Armor Kit - 05 Gold - +1 AC for next 5 hits. - 3 left In stock
A couple of notes:
Stackable items will be denoted as [#/#], where the first number is the current amount, and the second is the amount you can stack in one inventory slot.

Drink and food are used when resting and may give additional effects. If your party tries to rest without any food, the they will not recover as much.

If you equip the thigh holster, you will get another weapon slot for a small weapon such as a dagger, a throwing knife, etc. This means that you can attack with it without spending a minor action to switch weapons.

You can wear a leather cuirass under clothes and robes, but not under other armors (such as leather armor).
You can't equip both the vambraces and the gauntlets that the armorer is selling at once.

The armor kit reinforces your currently equipped body armor. It will have +1 AC for the next 5 hits that you sustain, meaning that attacks that you dodged don't count towards this number. You can only use the kit when you are not in combat, however, and you can't stack their effects on a single item. Once you've sustained 5 hits, the armor returns to its usual AC value.
If you use an armor kit on Leather Armor (3 AC), for example, you would get something like this: Leather Armor (4 AC) [5/5]

After browsing the food stalls and the armorer's shop, you head over to the Duke's Cup tavern.

The Duke's Cup consists of a large stone building with a fenced garden. High quality tables and chairs are arranged both outside in the garden and inside the stony walls, allowing its patrons to enjoy the tavern in both sections.
The inside is decorated with armor suits, weapon racks, and weapons and shields on the walls. Along with the castellated roof of the building, the difference between the way the garden and the inside of the tavern looks, and the overall nature of the architecture, you suspect the building may have been a barracks at some point in the past, and it looks like the owner kept with the theme in their decorations.
The inside of the Duke's Cup is bustling with life, with patrons enjoying themselves with drink and watching the performer playing in the center of the hall.
At the bar, a tall, tan, dark haired woman serves the costumers with drink, home-cooked food, and conversation.

Then she apologizes to her companions, if they did join her in the tavern, and goes back to the market because the thought of something she wants getting sold out in the meantime won't leave her head.
She buys a helm, vambraces and four travelling rations, and then checks out the remaining stalls.
Now that I said "listens", I hope it's a mime.

Cloak: Natalia's Cape
Hands: Leather Gauntlets (+1 Unarmed Dmg)
Spoiler:
Inventory...[ 00/10 ]

Active Abilities
Roughhouse [0/0]: Natalia attacks with her free hand, with a +1 to Hit. If Natalia has Flow, Roughhouse stuns the target for 1 turn if it connects.
Roundhouse [2/2]: Natalia kicks a target, dealing unarmed damage and reducing the target's AC by 3 for 1 turn if it connects. If Natalia has Flow, the target is also knocked back to cover. [30 AP]

Passive Abilities
Flow of the Fight: Whenever Natalia hits with an ability, she gains the status effect "Flow" during her next turn. Flow passively grants +1 Hit. Normal attacks do not grant Flow, but will maintain it. [200 AP]
Attributes:

Description: Natalia is a twenty-something girl of slightly above average height and full, but somewhat toned, build, sporting long crimson hair and a lightly freckled complexion. She stands proud, but not arrogant, wearing her strength on display but without anxiousness to prove it. She wears a decorative red half-cape, a reminder of a story from another time, whenever practical.
Portrait:

Natalia passed through the gates of the city, swinging her bag over her shoulder as she left the emptying caravan behind. The nasty gash she'd suffered at the hands of bandits on the road two nights ago had laid her up a couple legs of the journey behind her travelling companions, but they had gone ahead at her insistence. The inconvenience was finally out of the way, though, so she had some vigour about tracking down her two comrades.
Eventually, she noticed a rather distinctive set of armor being worn by a fairly brazen-looking fellow, and knew she had some common ground with which to strike up a conversation: another Black Knight.
By some stroke of fate, he had actually been working with her friends not all that long ago, so he was able to provide quite robust directions.

Natalia strode into The Duke's Cup, the familiar scent of alcohol washing over her. Although it threatened to raise some memories best left behind, now wasn't the time for getting worked up by herself. Surveying the tables didn't take long; builds like Surlak's were about as common as Black Knights anywhere. She raised her left hand in greeting as she headed over to join them.
"Good to see you two again, sorry I'm late." Quickly turning to Erinelca, she lightly punched his shoulder. "Seems like my time spent recovering proved quite lucrative for the two of you. Not every day you get to help out a knight like him -- well, maybe in your case."
While she would have had no qualms letting her feeble joke hang in the air, she quickly noticed a stranger with them.
"...Who's this?"

"Hey. Glad to have you back.
Svenn here, we met him outside the city waiting for that goddamn curfew. He knows the area and he's got a way with his crossbows, and we figured we could use a helping hand on an endeavour like this.
Wait... how'd you know about our little interim job?
Our client wanted his fancy sword back - how fancy it was, you should have seen it - and the fellow who had it got us pretty bad. It's why I smell like a bonfire, incidentally. Would've been easier with you by our side.
He didn't even use that sword, though. What a waste!"

Inserting another post that details things in a previous one is kind of unwieldy... I hope it's okay if I do that?
