Once upon a time, on a sunny day, you, the heroes of this story, were having a cake. But suddenly, some really evil dude appeared and was, like, really evil. He was, in fact, evil enough to go ahead and take a slice of your cake without asking for permission! He and the cake disappeared in a puff of smoke, only to reappear in the evil dude's castle thousands of miles away. Déjà vu? Ignoring the fact that you'd have no way of knowing where exactly he went, you set out on an epic quest to rescue the abducted cake, swearing to punish the evil dude for his evil deeds while you're at it!
Rules/Mechanics:
Roleplaying
1. Each player may only have one character. Your characters can act independently from each other if you wish to. Blah blah activity blah blah.
2. You can be whatever race you want.
3. If you want to say anything out of character in the game thread, use olive as a color please. If all you want to do is to say something out of character, please do it in this thread, not in the game thread.
Character Stats
4. Every character's main stats are HP (Health Points), SP (Skill Points) and XP (Experience Points). SP are basically the same as the MP we all know and never really gave a damn about, just under a more neutral name. Though really, you can call them whatever you want.
5. Advancing to the next level always takes 100 XP. Excess XP count towards your next level. Gaining a level will give you 4 additional points to distribute on your main stats.
6. Players may define the skills/spells/abilities they learn themselves; I won't interfere (unless you want me to, in case you want advice on your stuff or can't think of anything good). It's up to you whether you want to stay reasonable with your abilities or make them completely broken. Just keep in mind that I'll scale the enemy strength roughly to your own to provide you with a reasonable challenge - so if your abilities and stuff are completely broken, your enemies will be completely broken, too!
7. There is no gold or other currency in this game.
8. There is no item limit in this game.
9. You can start with whatever equipment and other items you want. As mentioned above, the stronger your equipment is, the stronger your enemies will be.
10. Your attributes are:
Strength (STR)
- Every point de-/increases your base HP by 1.
- Every point increases the damage your physical attacks deal by 1. Negative points do not decrease your damage.
[!]STR is also important to break things. No kicking down angry doors with low STR.
Dexterity (DEX)
- Every point de-/increases your Hit bonus by 1.
- Every other point de-/increases your AC by 1.
[!]Your DEX is applied to many utility and offense checks.
Agility (AGI)
- Every point de-/increases your AC by 1.
[!]Your AGI is applied to your saving throw against various spells (mostly those that take on a physical form, like a fireball for example), as well as for many other defensive checks.
Fortitude (FOR)
- Every positive point increases your base HP by 4. Every negative point decreases your base HP by 1.
[!]Your FOR is applied to your saving throw against status ailments and illnesses.
[!]Using this as a dump stat means you'll never have something you could call HP. Just something to think about.
Intellect (INT)
- Every point de-/increases your base SP by 3.
- Every other point de-/increases your (physical) Hit bonus by 1.
- Your INT determines the chance of success of many of your own spells, and sometimes their effectiveness. Negative points do not affect this negatively.
Willpower (WIL)
- Every point de-/increases your base SP by 2.
- Your WIL determines the effectiveness of many of your own spells. Negative points do not decrease their effectiveness.
[!]Your WIL is applied to your saving throw against various types of spells (mostly those that do not take on a physical form, like debuffs, curses and mind control).
Luck (LUK)
Luck is everything and at the same time nothing. It will not directly affect your stats nor your performance in combat, but if you find yourself winning tough encounters against all odds or keep getting hit by random stray arrows, your luck may or may not be responsible for this.
If you don't know what to think of it, just leave it at 0.
[!]Go ahead, use this as a dump stat. What's the worst that could happen?
...this results in the following sub-stats:
(+ only counts when that stat is positive, - only counts when that stat is negative)
Code: Select all
- Health (HP): 20 ± STR + 4xFOR - FOR
- Skill Points (SP): 10 ± 3xINT ± 2xWIL
- Damage (Dmg): Weapon damage + STR. If unarmed, weapon damage is 1-3.
- Hit Bonus (Hit): DEX ± INT/2 ± Weapon Hit
- Armor Class (AC): 10 ± DEX/2 ± AGI ± Equipment AC
Your modifiers can be anything from -5 to (4 + Lv). The sum of all your modifiers must not exceed +10 at the beginning, though you may distribute 4 more points everytime you level up.
You may have as many skills, abilities and spells as you want because I don't care to limit them. However, unlike what you're used to, I will not allow you to add any further skills, abilities or spells to your characters once the game has started, so make sure you get everything you want during character creation.
Combat
11. This PnP uses the traditional d20 system. Rolling a 20 on an attack is a critical hit, which deals double damage by default. If a critical hit would still miss, it will hit regardless, but not get the damage bonus.
12. If a character's HP drop to 0, he/she is defeated. Defeated characters can't act anymore until the battle is over, though they remain conscious. You're fully healed after each battle, so expect tougher enemies. Should you happen to wind up dead, fear not, for this game features savestates! You'll automatically make savestates at certain points and just go back to those if you die.
13. You can choose between two possible positions for battles - front or cover. Covered characters cannot attack or be attacked in melee. If no front exists, however, melee attacks from either side will no longer be stopped.
14. If you feel wimpy, you can escape from battles at any time. The RNG is rigged, so you'll enjoy a 100% success rate!
15. Any player can control the actions of any player's character. This is to provide shorter waiting times in combat.
And here he is, ladies and gentlemen, the man you've all been waiting for... Mr. Example!
- Mr. Example, Lv 1.00 (Front)
