-----------------------------------------------

Disgruntled and confused, you fight your way out of the crowd. The guards that were amongst it trail you to some extent, but when it's clear that you're heading for the exit, they return to the event, in which some rare book was being presented to the attendants. It seems as if getting dragged along was nothing but a distraction to keep you out of that part of the library... but how could such a conveniently-placed deterrent have been organised? Such an event is not created in a matter of seconds.

You leave the library and return to the cobbled streets of Galder. The sun is just setting, casting a brilliant orange light through the gaps in between the buildings. Once you're sure there's no problems with speaking up again, the suggestions and conversation you were making slowly starts to pick up again. You shuffle back down the road towards the nearest inn.
As you're walking, you notice a commotion up ahead of you. A group of robed figures are hastily moving ahead of you, running down the street to an oddly familiar building. You catch the insignia on the back of one of their hooded cloaks - these could be none other than members of the Order of the Path themselves! You hear one calling to the one next to him.
"Who would have thought that there'd be one of those right here under our noses? Hopefully we won't get in much trouble over getting that geezer out of his home to get it, though."
You then recognise where the men are heading - that's where the noble who was executed earlier today used to live!
They shuffle into the house one by one, and as soon as the last one is in the door closes, and you hear wood scraping on wood afterwards. They're probably blocking it up. This seems all the more likely as the distinctive click of a lock sliding into place is heard.

What could be going on?

Yumiko, Lv 0.00 [Front]
HP 16/16
MP ■■
4-11 Dmg | +6 Hit | 18 AC
Steel halberd [ 1d8 Dmg | 2h ]
Leather cloak [ 2 AC ]
Spoiler: Inventory & Status
Items (2/7):

Longbow [ +2 Dmg ]

[50/50] Iron arrows [ 1d4 Dmg ]

...

...

...

...

...
Spells (3/3):

Invigorate
[Current: +10 HP]
Restores [10 ± 1.5xWIL] HP for a single target.

Delusion
[Current: -3 Hit for 2 turns, DG 12 vs. WIL]
Forces all enemies to do a WIL check against a DG of [10 ± INT]. Every enemy that fails the check suffers a [3 ± WIL/2] Hit malus for [2 ± INT/3] turns.

Immobilize
[Current: 2 turns, DG 10 vs. FOR]
Forces all enemies to do a FOR check against a DG of [8 ± INT]. Every enemy that fails the check is paralyzed for [2 ± WIL/4] turns.
Abilities (115/120 AP)

Quick Strike [ 2 / 2 ] [ Active ] [ 30 AP ]
As a minor action, Yumiko executes a normal physical attack with a -1 penalty to Hit and Dmg.

Finesse [ Passive ] [ 40 AP ]
Yumiko relies on finesse instead of brute strength to hit her enemies where it really hurts.
Increases damage dealt with physical attacks by DEX/2.

Caution [ Passive ] [ 25 AP ]
Sometimes, it's a good idea to take things slowly to avoid getting hurt.
Whenever Yumiko doesn't use her minor action during combat, she gains a +4 AGI bonus until she next gets a turn.

Soul Drain [ Passive ] [ 20 AP ]
Whenever an enemy is KO'd, Yumiko passively absorbs some of its magical power and regains one MP.
Traits

Tainted Blood
Yumiko is a demon. This doesn't make her inherently evil, but her physical and mental capabilities are a bit different than a human's.

She is nocturnal and can see very well in the dark.

She is a bit stronger than a normal human of her build would be, giving her +5 stat points.

Aside from HP recovery spells, she cannot learn any spells with effects directly beneficial to their target(s). If she attempts to do so anyway, the effects of the spell she learns are reversed - a buff becomes a debuff, for instance.

She has a low tolerance to heat. Heat- and fire-based attacks deal 50% more damage to her.

She has a very low natural recovery rate. The time she needs to recover HP and damaged modifiers via resting is tripled.

Wings
Yumiko has a pair of large bat-like wings. These wings are fully functional - she can use them to fly if there's enough space.

Taking off into the air or landing back on the ground is a minor action. Yumiko cannot fly if there isn't enough room to do so, if her wings are injured or if she wears heavy armor.

While flying, Yumiko cannot be hit by melee attacks and fully ignores formations - she doesn't cover her team's cover row and can attack the enemy cover row in melee without provoking any checks. If she does attack in melee herself, she can be hit by any counter-attacks the target may be capable of using, however.

If Yumiko takes physical damage to her wings while flying, she has to make a FOR check against the amount of damage she took. If she fails the check, she plummets to the ground (possibly taking further damage by the impact) and cannot fly again until her wings have recovered from the injuries.
However, this also means that she can only wear clothes and armor that have an opening on the back that she can fit her wings through. Cloaks on the other hand are fine.
Attributes:
+2 Strength
+5 Dexterity
+4 Agility
-3 Fortitude
+2 Intellect
±0 Willpower

HPMod: +1

Appearance:
- Somewhat short, slightly curly black hair
- Crimson red eyes
- 1.71m tall
- Pale skin
- Large black bat-like wings
- Orange shirt with red ruby-like buttons on it and collar in the same red color. The sleeves end in black frills. Has two small holes on the back for the wings.
- Short dark red skirt with a faint star pattern on it
- Wears a black silk pantyhose
- Black shoes
- Looks to be around 17 years old.
Yumiko sighs. A book unveiling... Of course. She got too excited back there to consider the possibility of something this harmless happening. Still, his persistence on forcing them away from that part of the library is suspicious, and the timing of this event is a very odd coincidence to say the least.
"What the hell was his problem?"
The sun is setting already, and she hasn't caught any shut eye at all. Aw, man.
"Well, back to what we were discussing in the first place... You're right about us needing a scapegoat if we were to go through with it, but I-- ...huh?"
There's a commotion up ahead - a few figures that look like members of this so-called Order of the Path, judging by the insignia on their cloaks, are hastily heading towards the executed noble's home - and they seem to be looking for something.
"Oh, come on. It's like they're outright trying to appear suspicious to everyone."
A bit too much, even. It almost feels like a trap. Then again, why would it be?
But they looked the door... Bah. Who's that gonna stop?
"Whatever they're doing in there, I wanna know."
She faces the others.
"Any plans how to get in there without causing a commotion ourselves, or do we just break in through one of the windows?"

Stats:

Finesse: -5
Agility: -5
Endurance: +4
Intellect: +5
Willpower: +4

Info:
Ability Points: 15
HP Mod: +3

Appearance:
Before you stands a proud-standing, middle-aged orc. Tall and broad shouldered, it's clear that age has diminished his strength from previous years, yet he still stands tall and strong like an old warrior. His clothing is tribal, composed of a belted fur kilt, a heavy fur cloak, and a circlet of strung together bones and teeth which rests upon a bald head. Different from some orcs, the orc has dark, red-brown skin, red eyes, and large, jutting teeth from his jaw. The orc has a short, wide, braided black beard that covers the bottom of his face and a smug smile of superiority. While old, the man does not seem wise, and his thick, slanted eyebrows and narrowed eyes give a feeling of discomfort when passing the man...
Mulok snorts. These idiots were either trying to attract attention or too stupid not to - either way, he wasn't impressed.
"If they are attempting to attract attention, they're idiots - frankly, I have little doubt they could be handled in a fight - but as much as I'd like to see them burn, catching them in the act won't net us any evidence. They said they're getting something - instead of breaking our way in, perhaps we should wait and see where they take this seemingly important thing."
"It only hurts when my squad won't f***ing heal me."

-----------------------------------------------

Eager to see just what's going on here, you approach the door a little after all of the Order lackeys have entered. Red has a lockpick, so he takes it out and starts to work away at the lock.
Lockpicking will work like this: each lock has a value indicating difficulty. You get a d20 roll + your DEX stat vs that number. Exceeding the number results in a picked lock, excessive success will result in a super-stealthy pick depending on the circumstances. If your number is less than the difficulty - 10, the pick breaks. Otherwise, nothing happens.
Lockpick
Lock difficulty: 14
Red: 18 + 3 = 21 vs 14 - success!
_________

The lock clicks lightly, and the door budges slightly. There is still something heavy pressed up against it, though.
Suddenly, you hear a voice from within.
"Damnit! I see four Paths running right through the door. Get ready!"

It seems as if your presence has been detected.
What will you do now?

Where are you getting those 18 HP from, by the way? 20 - (3x2) + (2x1) = 16.

Yumiko looks at the orc, somewhat surprised by his words. Isn't his kind a race of warriors who try to solve everything with violence? It's odd to see him suggest such a calm and cautious approach.
"Oh, it may get us more evidence than you think. We could always..."
With a sadistic grin, Yumiko stresses the next word very strongly:
"...'interrogate' them if we aren't satisfied with what we see them doing."
While they're talking, the red-haired human however simply picks the lock. When Yumiko hears the click of the lock and sees the door swing open a tiny bit, she can't help but be surprised.
"That's an odd skill for someone like you to have... Are you a thief or something? Not that I care. Comes in handy after all~"
However, it seems that the human's doing hasn't gone by unnoticed - apparently those guys inside have noticed the group, as they're quick to exclaim. They even got the number right, despite the fact that they shouldn't have seen any of the intruders coming. Are their abilities real, then?
"Hah! Looks like our choice has been made for us."
She readies her halberd.
"Remember to capture one of them alive so that we can force the info out of them~"

Background:
Veles is a mercenary, a sword for hire. He's been that for the past 30 years, and it's all he knows...
Literally. He has no recollection of what was before, of his childhood, or even of his family. He'd never seen anyone like himself before.
Rumors of the Order of the Path have reached his ears and he has set out to find them, in the hope that they can see not only further down "the Path", but could also reveal details of his past.
"Bullshit.", Veles muttered under his breath.
Despite evidence, despite actually wanting for it to be the case, Veles couldn't believe that the men on the other side just divined their location and numbers.
He was convinced this was some sort of psychological warfare, that they actually saw his group approaching and are bluffing to seem intimidating...
But if this is true, based on that man's words, can they see actual paths? Are paths literally paths and not just metaphors? If that was the case, the chances that they can see "the path already traveled" so to speak, were actually pretty good. He now wondered if he should give up on this chase and approach the order directly for help...

"... I'm not fighting them unless they do first."

She sighs.
"Or do you happen to have a better plan than beating them to a pulp?"

"For myself... probably. If they can actually see what I intend to do, they'll know what I need from them and that I have no reason to assault them... For yourself... I don't how how appreciative they'll be of your attitude towards them."
He crosses his arms and waits.
"And besides all that, I've seen enough to know that if you can solve a problem without confrontations, you need to at least try to negotiate... unless you're being paid not to."

That's strange. What business does this beastman have with these Order guys? Didn't he just want to find out whether their abilities are real or if they're a bunch of fakers?
"What's that? Do you need something from them?"
She gives a shrug of her shoulders.
"Look, I don't really care what they think of me. They're humans, I'm not. I just want to have some fun. Are you planning to just casually walk in there and ask them for what you need?"

"Humans don't seem to mind your kind as much as you seem to think. From what I know, people think of beastmen as feral and simple-minded rather than direct threats. That's not nice, but people like me certainly have much worse prejudices going against them, to the point where I can hardly show myself in public even with this cloak."
She gives the red-haired fellow a grim look. His kind is the reason she has to hide all the time. In fact, it's odd that he seems to be so comfortable around what his kind would consider monsters.
"Now then, what are you waiting for?"

Info:
Ability Points: 15

As much as Mulok wanted to fight, he decided against it.
"Why should we fight them head on? Maybe we're capable of it, but what do we stand to gain from it? We can always use force second and force the information out of one of them, and it's not a foregone conclusion that they'd share information. We wouldn't lose anything but the element of surprise if he tried to talk to them first, and evidently that's gone already. We may as well try all of our chances."
Mulok gestures to Veles.
"Go on."
"It only hurts when my squad won't f***ing heal me."

Veles approaches the barred door. Takes a deep breath.
He speaks into the door loudly:
"Hold on, I'm not here for whatever you're here for, I just want to talk."
