[RPG] The Arcadia Project (Normal Mode)

    =====================================
    HP: 18/18 | MP: 06/06 | Front | Hans (AoD)
    HP: 21/21 | MP: 04/04 | Front | Heyon (pf2222)
    HP: 25/25 | SP: 00/10 | Front | Hart (Ditto)
    =====================================
Mankind is capable of wonderful things indeed - they can work together, build massive cities in the most inhospitable places and create the most amazing pieces of art. But they can also be cruel and destructive; they often wage war against themselves and others for low reasons. Just like they can create art, they can also destroy lives - or even entire species.
In this world, the fate of anything not human is horrible - it has no rights to live, to even exist. The most merciful people keep half-breeds and other races as slaves, while other people just outright slaughter them if they see one. They are so afraid of anything that is different than themselves that they have to destroy it, even if it never meant any harm to them...

Eventually, the three of you reach the entrance of the cave leading away from the city, up to the mountains. You do not know what it is called, nor do you know the name of the city - you just know that you want to get away from there. You happened to meet each other on your escape from the city and decided that it was safer to travel together, supporting each other when necessary. Just a mere hour ago, several elves were killed on the streets by the guards - for no apparent reason other than that they were elves. This event, despite having happened so often already, finally caused you to break free and escape from your "owners", and you somehow managed to survive and make it out of the city. And here you are now; exhausted, but finally free. But what about the others? There are still thousands of creatures like you in that city, and they will continue to suffer if you don't do something - just, what can you do? Can you even do anything at all?

You're currently in front of a cave leading up to the mountains. It's a tunnel that was once used for mining silver, but ever since an accident caused a part of the tunnel to collapse it is only used to access the mountains. It is said that a few creatures like you have escaped into the mountains before; maybe you can find some help up there? But in either case, you should at least be safe there for a while.
On the other hand, you could go back to the city and try to rescue more of your kind - and maybe punish some of the human scum while you're on it. Or you could try it with diplomacy, but seeing how deep their hatred is, the chances of that doing you any good are slim to none - at least as long as you don't have anything to "motivate" them into hearing you out...

There are probably other places that could be worthwhile to visit as well, but you don't know much about the area. If you want to go somewhere else, you should probably go up into the mountains first to get a view over the country.

What do you want to do?

You are free to do whatever the hell you want. You can go back to the city and get slaughtered try to achieve something there, you can go up into mountains and look for help or build a hideout or something, or you can even just wander through the lands and leave the past behind you, looking for adventures and maybe a new place to live.
Choose your own goal and work towards it.

Stats:
STR: 10
INT: 0
SKL: 10
AGI: 0
LUK: 0
CON: 10
SPI: 10

Story:
Postin this as I go along.

Appearance:
Hart the XIII is extremely tall (around 9 feet tall,) and rather intimidating, although his presence is more comforting when allied with someone. He wears steel boots and gloves, and is otherwise covered in full leather armor from head to toe, over which he wears a thick chainmail coat, and he wears a plated headband over brown hair that doesn't look very practical most of the time, but would probably be able to stop a few lethal blows to the head. The weapon he uses is an old and rusty yet still strong seeming two handed sword, and it glows as if once enchanted with powerful magic. The side of the blade faintly reads, "Oblivion." He also wears a simple, small, and somewhat feminine necklace of a gold flower with a purple gem in the center, but with the way he sometimes looks at it with importance, and his big size, it wouldn't be smart to make fun of it.
Hart wipes a bead of sweat from his brow. A revolution was coming, and he would do all he could to keep it alive.

His ancestors had been treated with prejudice for years, even before these recent times. His great, great, great, great, great... he wasn't sure how many greats... grandfather Hart had helped obliterate the dark dawn, but afterward, people had pretended he hadn't been involved, and his ancestors had been forced to move to these foreign lands. But the prejudice had gone on for years and years and years...

But he was done. It was time to leave the shadows.

He was equipped for war, wearing thick chain mail armor over leather and steel, as well as a steel plated headband. He had his powerful two handed sword with him, a weapon that had been empowered by dark magic and had been refined by his ancestors by divine magics, and he had... he had her necklace. Her gift, and his ancestors' blade, were all he needed to do extraordinary things.

Maybe someday, he would be able to find divine essence, the shining substance that empowered the blade... but the humans had taken that too. Recently, the weapon had grown weak from the lack of power. He planned to restore the power to his ancestors gift to him.

But for now, his goal was simple. The non-humans had to be freed. Looking around at the adventurers, Hart decides to make a statement to them. "I'm going to the city. Judging by the armor all of you are wearing, I wouldn't suggest following." With that elegant statement, Hart decides to head back to the city, approaching it close enough to be able to spot any soldiers, but far enough and hidden in the trees so he won't be seen. He goes into a defensive stance.

Thought I'd enjoy some solo tanking.

I used stance to reduce damage dealt and taken.

Story:
Hans, the ladies man. From his small protected village in the thick of the wild, whose defences the humans had not yet breached once, he wooed every Elven dame he passed, making him an outrageous flirt. Although he's rather ticked off at the humans, doesn't mean he can't have some fun along the way, right?
Appearance:
Tall, lanky but with a strong build, messy blonde hair, green eyes. Wears a fine tunic under his cloak.
Check remaining HP of enemies.
If most remaining is in Cover, use Cover Strike, if possible.
Otherwise, use Blazing Impale, if possible.
Otherwise, use a regular attack.
Hans ponders his options. Follow the giant one or head along with the birdy?
After about 10 minutes, he starts after Heyon. He had to get somewhere he was familiar with... he knew a lot of the forest before he'd been captured and taken to the human city.
"Hey, bird-man. Wait up, we should stick together."

You split up again.
Spoiler: Hart
You head back towards the city's border and hide in the trees just in time to not be spotted by the group of guards storming out of the city; they seem to be looking for you and the other two guys.

"The officer has instructed us to catch the creatures that escaped and punish them for their inacceptable behaviour. Kill the elf and the giant, bring back the birdman alive; his owner explicitely told us that he wants to punish him himself."
"Where do you think they might have gone?"
"To the mountains, most likely. They seem to be some kind of magnet for those feral creatures..."
"The mountains!? Like hell am I going up there!"
"You better do, or else you'll have to face the consequences. Am I making myself clear?"
"Y-yes, sir..."
"Remember, you're allowed to use the scroll the officer gave us in an emergency. Just don't use it unless really necessary."
"Yes, sir."

WWYD?
Spoiler: Heyon & Hans
You enter the tunnel leading to the mountains. Some of the lanterns attached to the walls seem to still be working, so it isn't actually pitch-black inside, making traveling through it so much easier. Eventually, however, you arrive at a fork; the left way continues the same as before, while the right one is cluttered with small rocks and such. You can spot a pickaxe lying around in the right tunnel in some distance.

Which way will you go?

Remaining hidden in the trees, you wait for the guards to split up, but they don't. Instead, they head towards the mountains; towards the entrance of the cave the elf and the falconman entered. They don't seem to be paying attention to what happens behind them, so you might be able to follow them without being detected if you want to. Or you could just ignore them and sneak into the city.

Spoiler: Heyon & Hans
You take the left path. After some more walking, you eventually arrive at the exit - you've reached the mountains. However, it's almost night already; you won't see much if you wander around there now. On the other hand, you can spot a few small huts in some distance; maybe someone is living here already...

    =====================================
Spoiler: Hart
You sneak into the city. Fortunitally, the darkness covers up your large size a bit; in the twilight, you could be mistaken for a tree if you stand still and aren't too close to whatever curious eyes might be focussed on you.
However, you can only really safely sneak through the narrow alleys; the closer you get towards the center of the city, the more guards are patrolling on the streets. If you were to be detected here, your chances of escaping the guards would be near zero.
On your way through the city you eventually notice a small group (4) of ruffians forcing a man that looks half dragon, half human into a small building in the alley opposite to you. You can only imagine what they're up to...

Will you follow them and interfere, or will you take another way?
Spoiler: Grohddin
You have finally decided to leave the city; you have had to deal with discrimination and hatred, and the resulting abysmal payment for your services, for a long enough time now. You have managed to retain your freedom up to this point - so why not make use of it now?
As you approach the border of the city, you notice that there seems to be a turmoil among the guards patrolling the streets.
"...escaped."
"...no way!"
"...too dangerous..."
"...filthy monsters..."
As they notice you, however, they just give you the usual reaction.
"If you don't have anything to do right now, make sure to get the hell out of our sight!"
Not the friendliest of reactions, of course - but at least they already know you. Mercenaries and similar fighters cannot be attacked in public, so the guards have no choice but to leave you alone unless you actively threaten them.

Will you try to find out more about what they talked about, or will you just go on and leave the city?
Spoiler: Heyon & Hans
As you approach the huts, you suddenly hear a voice from there speaking to you.
"Hold it! Who are you!?"
"Wait. One of them is a falconman. I can't tell from here what the other creature is, but I think it's safe to assume it isn't human either."
"...are you sure?"
"Do they look human to you?"
"...I guess they don't. Strangers, if you seek refuge here, you are welcome to join us and live here. We're only six people, but the mountains offer us everything we need to live. And excuse us for our initial distrust, but one of us has gone missing... We think humans might be the reason."

The owners of the two voices then step outside so that you can see them. The deeper voice belongs to an elf with dark, purple skin - probably a dark elf - while the lighter voice belongs to a girl with the wings of a dragon. They both seem to be in their teens, and they both carry bows and arrows with them.

Background:
The Lizardfolk are a tribal people, living in desolate areas of the world, detached from other civilizations, and scattered across all lands. Lizardfolk devote their lives to sustaining their tribes. Some are born with a natural gift of fate magic, those are called 'Seer' by their people, and usually become community figures, shamans, and philosophers, who compliment their natural gift with focused studies to improve their power and the collective wisdom of their tribe, and future generations.

Grohddin is one such Seer. His gift of fate magic was discovered later than others. Most often, Seers are detected by their tribesmen at early infancy, and given to the elders for training, while some, just as Grohddin, are only discovered when they harness their abilities to compliment their everyday tasks.
Grohddin was a hunter for his tribe when the tribe elders discovered his use of natural fate magic to increase the efficiency of his hunting company. They took him in and trained him as a proper seer, but he had still retained his old skills of the hunt and the passion for combat.

Many years later, Grohddin's tribe became involved in a war of territory with another, more dominant tribe, and was consequently wiped from existence by their enemies. The few that survived either joined themselves with the victor tribe, or fled to other regions to seek their fortune on their own. Grohddin was one of those fortune seekers, moving to the city and becoming an adventurer, and a mercenary.

This did not last long, however. The hatred and discrimination he had to face during his life in the city have made his existence difficult, and the situation seemed to worsen from day to day. He had finally decided that his fortune is not to be found among mankind, and set out to leave.
If what he overheard is indeed what he suspects it to be, there may be more like him. With no specific destination in mind, finding a group of like-minded individuals can be useful. He will have to approach this with some tact, however. The guards can't know the reason he actually wants this information from them...
I'm sorry to disturb, but I had overheard your conversation. I have just been hired retrieve certain escaped... persons. Dead or alive. It's dirty work but times are rough right now. My employee was in a hurry and provided very little detail, however. I don't suppose any of you could point me to such escapees?
Grohddin greatly hoped that these guards would be too distraught by his presence, and by the event they were discussing, to apply common sense to their thinking.
