Egoboo Community Forum Rules
Revision: 7 ( Last modified 16.11.09 )
General Information
Welcome to the Egoboo forums! Please read and follow the rules listed here. You are more or less required to know and read these rules. Breaking the rules can be punished. Please keep in mind that admins and moderators keep the right to ban and punish unruly members if needed. Any rule broken can result in PP points, which if you have enough, will cause your account suspended or even permanently banned. Your IP address is always logged with date/time and stored into a database viewable by admin. Be nice and use common sense.
A hidden e-mail address is confidential and cannot be accessed by anyone except the administrator.
More often than not it might be that your question is already asked by someone else. Problems you are having might be common and solved or answered long ago. Try to use the search function to find out if your topic does not exist already before posting your own. Also read the FAQ (located under the Help forum). This does not restrict to only questions, but we don't need clones of existing popular topics (like look at my avatar, forum games or running polls).
Writing Posts
Please refrain from using disturbing huge font sizes and colors.
Try to keep posts on topic and deter from using spam, especially just for increasing post count. Posting useless or stupid comments will be considered spam. Posting adult content will most probably result in instant and permanent ban. Do not harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress, unwanted attention or discomfort to another member. If you double post by accident, please delete your second and unwanted post to save the moderators some work. Do not bump old posts unless you have something to contribute with. Use the "Edit" button instead of making double posts.
We have different topics and sections in this forum. Try to keep help posts in the help section and not in the suggestion box.
SPAM and Advertisements
- Please make sure that you are posting for the good of the community, not just for the sake of self-promotion
- Advertising is NOT allowed.
- Surveys are not allowed, unless you have been given permission in advance from a Site Admin
- Do NOT use the Egoboo community for the purpose of 'spam' or excessive advertisements! This includes forum posts, private messages, or emails to other Egoboo members
- Our moderators reserve the right to edit or delete any posts they consider to be 'spam'
- Spam can receive PP points (See below)
- Posting advertisements will result in a instant ban!
Language
1337speak is frowned upon. Also do not write with a excessive use of capital letters and usages of marks (exclamation, question, etc). This also includes the use of emoticons. Examples for how we normally do not like posts:
PLEASE HLP ME PLZ! I NEED H3LP!1111 4-R34L!!11!!
I have a GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!!!!!
etc.
Try not to use heavy swearing (heck, damn and hell is okay). Speak English and do not use other languages in the boards.
Signatures and avatars
Make sure that your signature size does not exceed the dark blue box:
An avatar thats bigger makes reading tiresome and forces readers to scroll a lot more. Your avatar should also neither be offensive, advertisement for other projects or sites or very distracting for readers (Extreme colors, very flashy or movement, etc.).
Offensive and overly big signatures or avatars can be deleted without notice by an administrator. The blue box is 465x130 (maximum size of image, not whole signature).
Admins and Moderators
If you think a moderator is unfair or abusing his power, please report to the administrator, currently being Zefz. Admin e-mail: zefzsoftwares@hotmail.com
Please listen to moderators and admins to keep order and system in the forums we all can enjoy. This is not a nazi rule, but we need some degree of order in a open and free community.
Admins: Zefz, bgbirdsey, penguinflyer5234
Moderators: Cimeries, PurpleSquerkle, xenom[GER]
Keeping it open source!
Do not take credit for others work. Everything you share and post with the forum community is under the open source GNU GPL License (Same as Egoboo) - unless you specifically say otherwise. Read more about the License here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html
Punishment
If for some reason a member is punished, he is usually first issued warnings (Unless he does anything extreme, like post pornography, which is a instant ban). Further you can get temporary bans, spanning from a few hours to weeks. In the most serious measures, accounts can be deactivated, deleted and your IP can even be permanently banned from visiting this forum. Each trespass comes with an amount of penalty points (or PP) as decided by the moderator.
Your PP will reduce slightly with time if you stop breaking the rules though; It's 1 PP a day, but your PP won't decrease during a ban.
- hitting 15 PP results in a 1-day-ban.
- hitting 30 PP results in a 1-week-ban.
- hitting 45 PP results in a 2-week-ban.
- hitting 70 PP or more results in a permanent ban.
The current list of penalty points and reasons why they were distributed can be found here: The Black List thread

You are not allowed to harshly criticize and harass people for bringing new ideas to the community. The forums should be a place that people like to spend time. We should all try to build a community spirit for Egoboo-lovers. People should rush to bring their talents, works of art, story ideas, models, modules, and whatever Egoboo-related things that they can create.
Over the years, we have noticed that there have been a couple of behaviors that killed the good times and made people leave the project (good people!).
A while ago, someone made an awesome dragon model. Lots of people loved it, but one of the forum admins (who doesn't really hang around here anymore) basically told the guy that he was wasting his time dragons were too advanced for the level of the game. That guy left to project and the model was lost....
I'm sure the admin had some kind of reason for saying that, but it just ended up hurting the community and we lost a modeler!!! That is sad.
FORUM RULE: No one (not even a moderator) can tell someone they aren't allowed to work on something.
It is the basic principle of an open source project that anyone can try to contribute anything. The contribution may not be accepted in the end, but everyone should want to bring their ideas here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
At some point in the past, there was someone (who we have't not seen around since the last board started) who was always negative toward everyone's work, but never made anything himself. He kept promising to work on various projects but never came through.
That kind of thing is just annoying, and tends to cause "flame wars" between forum members. It would certainly drive people away.
FORUM RULE: Don't be a jerk.
If people don't want to come to the forum because you ticked them off, we have all lost something. And maybe the wrong person left the forum.

Revised some rules. Change the max signature size and mentioned restrictions to avatars as well. Added birdsey's fine forum etiquette from informe (there are rules vs. being a jerk and stopping others from contributing now )
Existing users who already read the rules revision 5 or earlier don't need to re-read the whole thing again (older members are already familiar with the forum etiquette anyways). But I can recommend reading the forum etiquette again, because those are some wise words
Is the moderator list up to date?
