Lots of things have changed for me over the past few years, and remembering you guys, I decided to drop in. I'm not sure if you guys remember me, but my childhood was mostly just following the community of this game. Looking back now, it's interesting to see where things have gone for better or worse. I never understood the original game's code very much, and I lacked the patience to learn C++ even though that in itself could have been beneficial. All I felt like I could have done was draw, and even then I felt didn't contribute much to the game.

There was just alot holding the game back from being as "polished" as I imagined it, and just seeing alot of other great independent projects made my stay all the more discouraging. So I pursued my own dreams and then sort of just abandoned the community.

So, hello I guess. I still draw and stuff. I'm also really into webcomics and indie games these days. What is everyone else up to?

Neither Zefz nor birdsey seem to have the time to continue working on the project. I and pf5234 tried to continue working on it, but I don't have the knowledge to work on the game's sourcecode - I can just handle the scripts - and even pf5234 ended up giving up on the mess that is Egoboo's sourcecode, so I suppose Egoboo is kinda dead.

Indie games are great. I especially like horror games like Ib or Mad Father. Other than that, Touhou is all I need.

Yeah. I've read over the forum before posting, so I know how it is now. It's sad, but it was almost inevitable I guess? It was a community pet project if anything :) There was a time where I wondered if the talents that kept the project alive moved on to make thier own little games with the skills they have gained handling something as crazy as Egoboo's code(and modeling with the limited tools even).

My favorite indie games are really just the ones that show a great love for retro, while evolving it into something unique at the same time. Nigoro's La Mulana is obviously my favorite(I made a topic here a couple years back). I also like Hero's Core, Bunny Must Die, and other little metriod-like(or metriodvania) games. They are probably my favorite genre, especially if the boss battles themselves gives you leeway for multiple setups upon sequence breaking/exploring. I also played Fortune Summoners and Dust recently. FS is amazing, if for the really well coded AI in an action RPG battle system. Dust was alright.

Never played Touhou. Are those bullet hell games? It always puzzled me that they may have been, considering the fanart and such.

Of the ones you listed, I've played Bunny Must Die and Fortune Summoners, and I agree that both of them are awesome. :)

Touhou is indeed a series of Bullet Hell SHMUPs. They're great - give them a try if you like. Good games to begin with would be 6 (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil), 10 (Mountain of Faith) or 13 (Ten Desires).
EoSD, while simple to play, is ridiculously hard, though, so maybe consider starting with MoF instead. xD

If you like Retro-styled indie games, also give Rosenkreuzstilette a try. It's a love letter to Megaman games and videogaming in general, and probably the best Classic-Megaman-style game I've ever played.

Now this is an unfamiliar face. Nice to see you, dude, and glad that you've stuck with the drawing since you were always better at it than I. x)

I sort of drifted away to some degree, since I only really paid attention to the PvPs we hosted since quite a while back, and now I'm mostly spending time playing videogames or managing my Facebook page.
Still using your deviantART?

Hey Agent! Long time no see buddy! Glad to see that you are still drawing man. Interesting to see what you have shifted to since back then too. the last I remember were the Sonic OCs, or OCs made in the style. You've really improved and you seem pretty happy with what you are doing, so that's great!

As for DA. Yes and No.

I still update it, but not as much as my Tumblr: http://edyics.tumblr.com/tagged/ArtWORKz
The sketchbook tag has more drawings too, but yeah. I'm focusing on starting a webcomic once I get a new job. It's kind of the reason I didn't start a FB page yet ^^

I've seen an LP of this game before, and honestly. It really didn't look like the kind of game I'd play. I felt it used a little too much from Classic Megaman, and the mashup looked a little bit inconsistent with the artstyle. But it was a fun LP to say the least.

You really seem to be into the "doujin" game scene. I only venture into it if one of my friends suggests something that stands out. I might try one of the Touhou games you mentioned despite not really being into bullet hell/damaku that does not involve spaceships or jets. Maybe not immediately as I have a ton of other things to get out of the way first.

Oh, hello, person who was here before I showed up. I remember some of your art!

La-Mulana is incredible, and I'm pretty fond of HeroCore as well (it's just enough of everything).
I was sceptical as well when I first heard of Touhou, but bullet hell with human characters isn't nearly as awkward as I expected... and the spellcards (bullet patterns) are very beautiful, the music's catchy and intricate (albeit often blaring) and the character design is very creative.

Regarding drifting away, it's pretty much the same with me (except it's Tumblr instead of Facebook) - maybe we should create a Skype group beneath the scope of these forums, as we had planned once?

Ah, Tumblr. My old nemesis. Your stuff is looking really neat, though!

Oh, by the way, if you're looking into webcomics, it's probably worth linking you this'n: www.tapastic.com
Absolutely fantastic resource for webcomic publishing, the fact that it exists is pretty amazing. :D

If you don't enjoy Classic Megaman gameplay, maybe you'd be more interested in Grolla mode? Grolla pretty much plays like Zero without the buster (she can wallclimb, dash, and obliberate everything with her sword, but doesn't gain any new weapons).

I am! In this day and age where a lot of commercial game series are just being milked for the money over and over again, it's nice to see indie/doujin developers still put the love and effort into their games that really makes them great.

If we're talking about indie games, there was one released recently called Gunpoint. It's a stealth-based puzzle platformer that's extremely well-polished, and I can't wait until I have the cash to buy it.

So much to respond to. Forgive me if I hold back responding to it all for "anti-wall-of-texts" sakes. It's really cool to talk with you guys after this long.

@octagon: Skype groups sound fine and dandy, but I'm in the process of making a group myself in an attempt to chat with fans of 2 particular webcomics I follow. Gunnerkrigg Court and Paranatural. But, I'd so join you guys if you do start one. Especially since we are all into indie games, and I love talking about what makes them great or bad.

@Shade: I love Classic Megaman. It's just... the enemy designs and behavior, I guess. They were almost straight out copied, and they didn't seem to fit with the "magic-witchcraft" theme of the narrative or bosses(which were fine for the most part).

But yeah, I agree that there's alot of love put into indie games. I could go on about it.

@Dread: Hmm. I'm really looking into starting my own site morose publish on a protocol. But it does look interesting. I think I prefer SmackJeeves though, as some of my favorite series are there.

...but seriously, hi. Welcome back, it seems like yesterday when I last had the chance to mention TOSS FOR HIROY. Wait, that's not a good thing, is it? Ugh. It's been forever! AHHHHH, HIROY, YOU'RE GONNA GET SO MANY HUGS AND--- wait, that might contain subtle homoerotic undertones if inspected closely, and the only male human being who I would ever do anything remotely considerable as that wWHATEVER, *hugs and kisses Hiroy and we ride into the sunset on pink unicorns while 8-bit smooth jazz plays in the background*

Well, that might have had some subtle homoerotic undertones, but it's okay since you probably look like David Tennant, and he's the most handsomest sexiest person on the planet. I'm just glad to see read you, it's really been pretty long since you pooped popped here. Why do I always get so excited when someone returns? Like, usually I'm just "well, yay potatoes", but then I'm all "WHEEEEE HELL YEAH POTTERTUCKING MOTHERTOES!!!"

...now, seriously for a second or two, it's great that you're back, and although it's true Egoboo seems to be dying/having died, at least I haven't lost all hope. Not that my hope would matter, but still. Like, it might seem like we're all too lazy busy with other stuff, but maybe one day, in the future, everyone comes together (not like that, you pervs*) and we achieve something great. Something that can be called a rebirth for Egoboo, the greatest rebirth in all of history, the epic time of true poslunction. And like the saying goes, a man can dream... sure, it might be unlikely, and it might be ten years from now, but still. I can't be the only one who feels that way? You feel that way, too, right, Hiroy? Right? :waah:

*Am I the only one who, every time they see those words, giggles like a ten-year-old?

PS: I apologise for the immense one-sided sexual tension present in this post, it's just that it's so awesomazomerizing that Hiroy's back that it can only be repressed expressed in this way.
