I finished my service as a senior mechanic. Working in the defense industry for prolly the next couple of years so I have enough money to move north and study for a B.Sc in Aeronautics.

After that I'll probably start working on my Ironman suit.

Jk.

Or am I?

What have you been up to?

I'm still out there, doing work anywhere I can and taking classes that I'm way overqualified for. Maybe one day I'll get where I want to be, but for now I'll have to settle for being four or five steps down the ladder from there.

Sounds good!

Since I stopped posting on Egoboo, I finished my high school studies (at the same school as AoD!). I also just finished my first year of studying at the University of Melbourne, where I'm basically doing a pre-med degree. Overall, it will take me 3 years to get my Bachelor's, and then if I continue into actual med as planned, it's an extra 4 years of study on top. So I'll basically be studying until I'm in the grave :P

I just had a skim over your Armyland thread from a while back and it looks like you've got a really nice path worked out, so good on you. I think you'll really enjoy doing your BSc.

@Maxaxle: Hang in there! You might feel overqualified for your classes now, but it will hopefully be worth it in the long run. Keep your head up :)

I hope you do! What field are you studying?

Oh snap I remember that thread. I haven't updated it with all the details from my time as a senior mechanic (total boss btw), but I guess it's best to leave it at that for now.
I also ended up redacting some stuff from it a couple of years ago since some of it was on a "need to know basis", i.e not classified per se, but it's best not shared on the internet.
My new job I can't even talk about it here since it's actually classified. xD

Looks like you got your stuff together nicely as well Shelly, good luck in med school. ^^

Oh dear. I may be in one of the most financially-stable situations one could ask for, but my spending cash got overtapped over the past few months. Guess I'll have to put off upgrading my main machine.

I realise how late I've gotten back to this, but I'm getting on pretty good. I graduated back at the end of 2014, did about a semester and a half of IT/game dev at university before I realised it wasn't really for me, and I spent most of last year working part time at my dad's winery, doing chemical analysis and stuff in the lab. Seems like this year is going to end up pretty much the same, though while that's going on I want to finally learn to drive & start making something real and tangible out of my art instead of just doing various illustrations. Not that I'm not quite proud of how that itself is progressing, though. :)
Spoiler: Some draws from last year

I made friends with an artist who's very experienced in D&D and other tabletop games, so at last I've found the scratch for the long-enduring PnP itch you guys left me with. And I promise I can write more substantial characters, these days. :P

I also talk with Purple now and then, she seems to be doing well enough too. Hope the States aren't too taxing on her in the coming times.
Anyone heard from Clonk/Shade lately?

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time on Facebook lately (even though I dislike Facebook). Sometimes I’d rather go outside, but that would probably irritate the heck out of my parents. Oh well.

Whoa, your talent keeps growing. :o The first pic looks like it could literally be by some famous artist that people plaster their walls with. I mean, the picture. Not the artist. Plastering your walls with another person is pretty messed up. It took me a while to realise that the girl with her head on the other girl's lap has black skin instead of some bodysuit, though, and that the blushing isn't her eyes and that her eyes aren't her eyebrows. But the other girl's hair and ears are amazing, and the face is cute, there's a real warmth to the image.

Eh, my view of Purple went pretty quickly from "one of the best people in the world" to "nope". I just can't take anything seriously enough to care about people's feelings, especially if caring about those feelings would require me to hurt my own feelings.

I've never used Facebook except for occasionally communicating with people that like my music, and unfortunately it's impossible to make friends online nowadays because everything is political and the first thing anyone asks anyone else is what they think of political issues. I don't get it, it's like we're suddenly living in a world where no fun is allowed and where everything must be analysed thoroughly for any sign of political incorrectness and shunned if even a hint of non-conformity is found. It's scary to think that even kids are probably constantly thinking about what they can and can't say in fear of being labelled racist or sexist or transphobic or whatever. Child abuse is being normalised (parents forcing their kids to be transgender), and "global society" is literally one step away from restarting colonialism but this time "with good intentions", as if that was possible...

Also, my parents would jump up and down in joy if I went outside. :P

...all I've done is make music, listen to music and trying to learn various languages; mainly Turkic languages (mostly Turkish and Kazakh), some Mongolian and Persian, a little bit of Hungarian, and of course continuing with Japanese. If anyone wants to listen to the music I've done, this is the latest album which is mostly a mixture of noise, black/death metal, industrial, synthpop, breakcore and whatever with a bunch of samples from various things like horror movies, porn, random youtube videos and ads. :P

"Nope" sums up my initial reaction adequately. Not "disowning" him/her or anything, I'm just disappointed that he became part of a regressive subculture.

As for making music. I make rap. In Hebrew and English. Here's one of the few songs I've finished if you want to have a listen.

I have over twenty songs written with matching beats, I'm just too lazy/swamped with work and studying to record, mix and master everything. :P

Yeah, the regressiveness is the worst part. Him/her/them/???? intentionally disregarding history and implying that I'm as much to blame for slavery as any white American is actually worrying; he/she/they/???? didn't explicitly say anything about slavery AFAICR but linked to some video or article or something that explained how white people having dreads is oppressive because of slavery. Even if that wasn't total bullshit by common sense, it wouldn't make sense because, like, I'm Finnish so my ancestors probably were slaves to Swedes and/or Russians. Obviously, blaming people for the things their ancestors did is pointless and stupid, but it's one of the two sides to nationalism (although ironically people who oppose nationalism tend to take it much farther...) and unfortunately people are like "yo momma so fat" by nature, so disagreements often can't be resolved without the intervention of a third party, and if that third party is a condescending shit without any actual understanding of what the conflict is all about... well...

And I mean, if "you're white, so you're evil" was a religiopolitical argument (original sin, predestination and inheritance of the sins of a father to his son or whatever combined with a politicalised americentric concept of race), it would be at least partially excusable as not being a personal choice to be ignorant as much as it would be the result of indoctrination. Even though it would still be ignorant, at least it would be part of a bigger picture of ignorance, but for someone that has abandoned organised religion for exactly the reason that it's ignorant, it's really hypocritical, backwards and ignorant to throw around accusations like that even if they're disguised in the form of education and correction of social injustices; I mean, I'd actually say it's somewhat worse because, you know, it's regressive...

...and I actually apologised for joking on twitter that I'd get dreads and wear a shirt that says "I'm trans-fat", after which Purple continued to educate me on why it's racist for white people to have dreads. What the fuck, right? If I could do so without having to fear the consequences, I'd take back every apology and tell him/her/them/???? to sit on a garden gnome, but the risk of becoming the target of an internationally organised movement that has demonstrated the will and capability to ruin people's lives... well... :?

Hopefully I won't get banned for getting all political (although I'm not really posting about my political views per se (unless ridiculing ridiculous political views is a political view?), but well...)

Cool, you have the rappiest voice ever and sound really professional! I don't understand anything of the lyrics, though, so they could be like "wen i was babby i tok a poop on me mums bobbs so now im takn a poop on all ur faeces XDDDD" and I'd feel the same way.

I've mostly given up on rap because I have a really un-rappy voice and suck at writing coherent lyrics... and when I try to write rap lyrics, they usually end up sounding either like child-unfriendly nursery rhymes or self-explanatorily bad (ie. "I really suck at rap, you hear this crap???? XDDDD lol imma fap brb ._.") and the only exception is the song "Samsara", which I'm actually proud of; it only has a short rap bit at 1:39-1:56, and for some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to make it really quiet (well, I don't like how my voice sounds when I rap, so...) and you probably can't even make out any of the lyrics... they're actually laughably bad and devoid of any meaning while supposed to criticise the lack of meaning in rap... And I was in a really gay place in my head at that time (mid-late 2013), so it turned out a bit too hammer-in-the-hammer (nail-in-the-nail?) for what I'd usually even think, let alone write and use as lyrics, but ehhh, I'll post them anyway:
Spoiler: facepalm-inducing lyrics
facile homophobic rappers stealing each other's tricks
rapping euphemistic tongue twisters, homophonic gimmicks
lip service logistics and aural satirism for tactful cunnilinguistics
phonetically challenging serpentine ways on their ad hominics
they're running out of time for the punchlines to bash on gays
writing complex mazes of words, linguistic jigsaw puzzles
We should maybe collab on something someday? It could be interesting. :P

Sure thing dude, I'd love to collab. If you can produce something with a standard rythm scheme (I know you like doing crazy experimental stuff that has strange structure) and good groove I can write some lyrics for it for sure. It doesn't have to be rap either, I have no problem writing and performing rock, I just go with rap since it's the most lyrically dense form of songwriting and you can do a lot of interesting stuff with it and throw around funny ridiculous punchlines.

The reason I sound close to professional is because I went through some good tutorials for mixing and mastering music and I did those after recording my lyrics. There's a very technical element to it that I really enjoy.

So, my computer broke, and I'm using my mum's laptop to post this just in case. My dad will try to fix the computer tomorrow, but he said it's probably completely fucked. In that case, I'll have literally lost all chances of ever making music again without having to start fresh completely, because the software I use (FL Studio and Samplitude) and all the VSTs and samples and shit are gone, and although it's possible obviously to reinstall everything and blah, it would be impossible to have everything in all the same-named folders, and I could never finish any of the songs I've started working on since the file paths or whatever wouldn't be the same, etc. and having to start all over again with everything is just too much work for someone as lazy and whatever as me. I wish I could kill myself, but I'm too cowardly and anyway, it wouldn't even be possible because my mum is constantly around and would stop me. I'd fail anyway, but if I disappear again, it'll be because I'm either dead or "getting help" or something, although the latter is my worst nightmare. If I'm gone for like a month, please, someone post on my FB music project pages that I'm probably dead; I know it's really vague and all but like I said, if I don't kill myself (successfully), I'll be forced to "get help" and I'll keep trying to kill myself until I succeed. I don't want people to not know why I'm not doing new music. https://www.facebook.com/Deformed-Eleph ... 521849451/ and https://www.facebook.com/vlyrch, also I hope no one will be sad if I do die because having to start a new life would be worse than death, and death is one of the only things I'm not afraid of, anyway...

But well, I mean, I'm hoping I won't have to kill myself to be happy. If I get a new computer and can somehow convince myself that I don't need music or anything to be happy, I'll definitely post here about it to let you know I'm alive. It's just that music and my old shitty computer are my life, so without them, I'd rather be dead. But if my dad can fix the computer, which I believe is a 50/50 chance, everything will be fine.

Or you can put all that aside and we can start a boy band instead.

Seriously though, I'm here if you want to talk.

This one has some potential. Going to write some lyrics for this. :woo:

Yay, my dad fixed the computer! And I also prayed that it'd work, really hard and a lot, which I believe has something to do with it, no matter how crazy it might sound.

Yeah, I have a lot of similar stuff done, and it's easy to do that kinda things so I'll send you whatever in a PM and yeah.

...and I guess I overreacted to my computer breaking (technically, it wasn't broken; it was the graphic card that was broken and somehow fucked up the whole computer as a result, but no files were lost or anything, and yay) but I have no life outside the internet and my whole life is about making music, etc. so... you know.
