Maxy's Getting an N64!
(or at least hoping to)
Any suggestions on finding, buying, etc. an N64 or controllers/accessories?

Sometime not to long ago:
Maxaxle is minding his own business, when suddenly, a thought:
"I should get an N64."
One second later:
"I should make a topic about it right away."

You're getting a bus route!?
...
You're getting a magazine!?
...
You're getting a latitude!? (I didn't know you lived in Canada, that's what CA means?)
...
Ohhh. You're getting one of those Nintendo entertainment systems.
The Internet? (Couldn't you just use the Wii's Virtual Console?)

So much for getting useful advice...
Simple: Unless I found a workaround, I'd have to buy stuff from Nintendo's online store thing.penguinflyer5234 wrote: (Couldn't you just use the Wii's Virtual Console?)

Why yes, that is exactly what pf5234 suggested you do.Maxaxle wrote:Simple: Unless I found a workaround, I'd have to buy stuff from Nintendo's online store thing.

Re: Maxy's Getting an N64!
I mean, what kinds of workarounds are there? Since I've installed the Homebrew Channel on my particular Wii, I've tried a few emulators and found only the simplest of systems that can be emulated work well; the Crusin' series (N64) barely emulate at 10 FPS, for example.Shade wrote:Why yes, that is exactly what pf5234 suggested you do.Maxaxle wrote:Simple: Unless I found a workaround, I'd have to buy stuff from Nintendo's online store thing.

Re: Maxy's Getting an N64!
If you're going that way why not use a computer + TV?

@Axle Maxle: In that case you're not actually getting an N64, making you a big fat liar.

Re: Maxy's Getting an N64!
Already tried emulating with computers before. At worst, it's 5 FPS and/or glitchy and laggy, at best it's really freakin' fast but standard controllers don't do it justice. And as I said before, Wii emulating is terrible. Worse than Boxbot.penguinflyer5234 wrote:If you're going that way why not use a computer + TV?

Who said I wasn't? I'm still planning on it.Shade wrote:@Axle Maxle: In that case you're not actually getting an N64, making you a big fat liar.

Re: Maxy's Getting an N64!
Why buy an N64 when you can spend the money on N64 games on the Virtual Console?
Virtual Console "emulation" seems to run games at the correct speed (ah yeah 20 FPS for Zelda!)

Asking for advice about emulators very strongly implies that you were lying.Maxaxle wrote:Who said I wasn't? I'm still planning on it.
Besides, the N64 games offered in the Wii's virtual console are very cheap compared to what you'll have to pay to get a working copy of the actual cartridges nowadays. You're just too late - the N64 is well over 10 years old by now. If you missed out on it back when it was among the newest consoles, the Wii's virtual console is the next-best thing you're gonna get.

Re: Maxy's Getting an N64!
1. I wasn't asking about advice about emulators, I was asking for advice about an N64.
2. Virtual console controller(s) =/= N64 controller(s). Specifically, you just can't get a three-pronged controller for a Wii.
3. As cool as using the virtual console may be, you outright loose any ability you may have had for reselling, trading, etc. *and* there aren't many games available. Prime example: Crusin' USA is available, but not Crusin' World (which was MUCH better than either of the other two). Also: No Goldeneye, no Perfect Dark, no Conker, no Vigilante 8, and no Body Harvest.
Obviously they either want to keep an image of kid-friendliness, or they couldn't port those titles (Crusin' World, Body Harvest, and Vigilante 8 shouldn't have been an issue as far as hardware limitations go), or there's not enough of a market for them (which is BS).
