New from Aaron Bishop
A video of his new game engine
Re: New from Aaron Bishop
Reminds me of Minecraft, though one has to acknowledge that he's doing it differently.
The building cursor looks like it's not suited for precise building, though. I hope he'll include more precise cursor variants in the future.

That is looking pretty sweet. I love the art style and the way the terrain melds together.

Seen it. LOVE the way terrain is dug away.

Looks like so awesome, like I just commented on youtube.
I seriously hope it'll be free... otherwise I'll cry in the corner again.
@Birdsey: it does work, put only the "w9-lJzFZ72I" part of the url.

Looks much like some planned 3d adaptations of Clonk... except much better. Quite promising, can't wait to play it.

Gameplay of Terraria =/= Gameplay of Minecraft. But a TRUE ripoff of Minecraft would be Fortresscraft. And it sucks, too.Agent of Dread wrote:So was Terraria, basically, but people love that.

Minecraft is a ripoff of Dwarf Fortress anyway.

All those games are LEGO implementations, and LEGO in turn is based on simple building bricks. Sort of.

Re: New from Aaron Bishop
It's funny how every 3D terrain-editing sandbox is a "Minecraft clone", even though Minecraft didn't invent 3D terrain editing, sandbox games, or even the particular cube-based construction/destruction it uses.
As 5234 alluded to, Minecraft based its core concepts off Infiniminer in the first place.
Anyway, I'm actually kind of surprised nobody thought of doing this with much smaller voxels at any point in the earlier past. This looks much more appealing to me than any of the other terrain-changing sandboxes that are so popular these days (Minecraft, Terraria, etc.)!

Re: New from Aaron Bishop
Infiniminer is about grabbing stuff and building stuff as a psychotic miner. Minecraft is about doing random crap in the middle of nowhere. They're both block-based and fun, but that's where the similarities end. Fortresscraft is Minecraft Classic, no way around that, except it sucks. Terraria is a 2D platformer survival game where you make huts for people. Yes, you heard that right. You're an apartment manager in Terraria.

Dunno, I watched a few videos on youtube and it didn't seem that much like the same. Not that I'd ever have played Minecraft either, apart from the crap browser thing, but you know, I don't have money or anything, soooo.Maxaxle wrote:Fortresscraft is Minecraft Classic, no way around that, except it sucks.
