Movie thread

Post by woodmouse »

Yeah, self explanatory title, right? So... talk about movies. :)

Some movies I've watched recently:
-The Messengers
It started so awesomely, but... ugh WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE SO CLICHEOUS!!? Ever since the first time one of the people were seen, I had the feeling he's a murderer or a rapist. And of course, in the end, he was. Obvious shady characters ARE always just what they seem like... Seriously, I mean, what kind of sane and right-minded person suddenly appears out of nowhere with a shotgun and shoots some birds, and WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND ASKS HIM TO MOVE IN TO THE SAME HOUSE!!?

-The Fog
Again, this one was so great in the beginning when the people were in a boat and stuff, but seriously, it was too messy to be classified as "really good"... the whole plot was so stupid and the ending was so predictable that it was almost like "...really? Did this end HERE? ...really...? ...of all the possible endings, THIS is what they did!? JUST WHAT THE KNEE-LOVING TURTLE!?!?" Also, outdated cgi. VERY MUCH SO.

-Fair Haired Child
Not really a movie but an episode of Masters of Horror. It's ONE OF THE BEST horror things ever. And the mindtickliest (censorship :P), especially the ending. I mean, all the mindtugs came together, but then it all turns out to be the complete opposite of the conclusion... it just left me being all "lolwut, am I even confused, or do I understand what just happened?" Everyone MUST watch it. Unless of course you're like 7 and scared of crawling demon thingies that twitch all over the place trying to kill people.

Uh, I've heard that Howl's Moving Castle is pretty good, although as of yet I am unfortunate enough as to not have seen it. :C

Inception: WORTH EVERY PENNY, but watch it multiple times.
Adjustment Bureau: Cool, but predictable and has obvious religious overtones at a few points. The plot is straight out of an ancient Greek story, when boiled down to the basics.

Ghostbusters 4: What.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: If such a thing would be possible, I'd call it a worthy adaptation of the book.
To Kill A Mockingbird: Pretty anvilicious, but Atticus Finch is incredibly badass.
The Life of Brian: Win.
The Song of Sparrows: Looks pretty good. Gotta watch it one day.
The Truman Show: I kind of liked it.
Wag the Dog: "

Fight Club
A Clockwork Orange
The Graduate

Pharagraph 78 - It's a Russian film, you'll need to find it with subtitles, it will be worth it.

I just came back with this from the library TODAY. I plan on watching it as soon as I finish making supper.
That's creep-TASTIC.

Update:
AMAZING film. One of the best I have ever seen. I like a lot of things, so it's impossible to really do "Top [x]" lists, but... I dunno, if I did, this would be... somewhere... in there. I'm almost upset I never saw it until now, but at the same time, I saw it at all, so that's not really important.

Just watched Pan's Labyrinth... it was cool, but not as good as I thought it'd be. I mean, it had the same flaw that every movie directed by del Toro has: so much awesomeness, but in the end the awesome stuff isn't that awesome. :?

Example: the weird guy with the eyes in his hands was only for like 5 minutes of the whole movie. I mean, that whole part in it was so short, that it kind of didn't have the effect it could've had if it'd been longer. You know, if there'd have been at least some kind of menace about him, not just some skinny old dude who supposedly eats kids... like, how can he eat like 50 kids or whatever, but doesn't even almost catch one who just kind of escapes from him? It's just not logical.
The same thing is in EVERY MOVIE he's directed. Well, the ones I've seen, at least. Always some über-original epicness, but never taken to the point where it'd be REALLY epic... :(
Another thing that was kind of weird about it was the army people... sure, if they're fascists, they kill everyone, but they shot so much, it was like, "hey, there's some random dude, let's shoot him in the head! then shoot him again! when we've made sure he's dead, let's shoot a few more times just to waste bullets!", but well. :P

1. GO WATCH COWBOYS AND ALIENS WHEN IT COMES OUT ON DVD. Expect a little more gore than the normal PG-13 action movie warrants. And although it's not really scary, there are a lot of surprising bits.
2. Radio Days. Did I bring it up earlier?
3. If you live under a rock, now is the time to watch The Social Network.
