I think you should only steal stuff if you're cloaked or something.

bgbirdsey wrote:Not necessarily, the % to steal might mean that there is a 5% chance that the rogue will try to steal something in a shop when you tell him to pick it up. So, 95% of the time he will need money.

Also, if you get killed, any in-hand items may be lost, so there is a sense of danger with being a rogue.

I'm not too happy with the idea that I might randomly anger the guards by failing to steal something when I actually just wanted to buy it (like a life potion), but fine...

I too agree with Clonkinator here. I myself like to have at least a little control of my character's actions in RPG's. Deciding when you can steal is nice.

It would be cool as a Kurse though! A curse of the thief or something.

meh. There is already lots of stuff in the game about the characters waiting around for you to do something... Maybe the Rogue character just gets tired you the player being a goody-two-shoes all the time?

Hmm. I think intelligence/wisdom should play a role in "Should I steal...?", as in, the Rogue would figure out whether or not to steal something depending on how tight security is, how much health he has, how watchful the shopkeeper is, and how valuable the item is.

I implemented stealing in the next release. Any character can try to steal from a shop right now, as long as they are invisible! Certain pets like the bunny can always try to steal (and they do! So be careful not releasing your pet in town)

Each time you steal there is a 50% chance of being detected. +2% for every DEX the thief has and -2% for every WIS the shopkeeper has. Shop keepers with See Invisible cannot be stolen from. (unless it's a pet again!)

Sounds awesome! That might encourage players to actually buy something instead of just having their tundra bunnies pick all of it up.

Figure it out yourself by trial and error :P

Make your own list and upload it to the wiki ;)
