The end text thing is implemented, but doesn't show up.
It is a bug with the screen updates. The code assumes that it can just draw the screen once and the screen will not be updated or blanked until the module is unloaded or someone right-clicks ( like in the olden days )
Anyway, I think we would have to implement the existing end text code as a menu. Then you do exactly the same thing you do for any menu: load a background image, set up the buttons, draw the text, wait until the window is dismissed. The background image could just be modules/*.mod/gamedat/cutscene.bmp if it exists, it gets put up on the screen. We could even allow for success and failure images.
There could be a tombstone image, a generic cutscene image, etc. in basicdat.

My idea was the Archeologist seeing his hat flattened by the boulder and looking sad.

I was thinking of that, but my test was not promising. The letters covered over the art too much.
Maybe the text could scroll over a portion of the screen that doesn't have the art? Also, we could maybe have a gallery of cut-scene images fot the modules you've beaten?
OR maybe the cutscene art would replace the title image for modules that have been beaten?

Nope. Every module I've made myself doesnt have an ending text. But I think the module creator should have a word in how the ending text should be (He or she has after all put a lot of work in creating the whole module, created the module plot and written the introduction text).
We could start early writing those text if someone has urges to do it:
Ice Palace
Soldier Start
Wizard Start
Paladin Start
Catacombs 1 & 2
Abyss 1 & 2
Griffin Tower
K'nifes Heist
Ash Arena
