EGOBOO -- Another editor

The development of the game itself or new resources for it. Any new stuff you're working on would go here, as well as the discussion of in-development stuff.

Sweet! Process is coming along rapidly. Let's hope this map editor will be done before you suddenly disappear like our previous map editor devs xD

Editor

Post by bitnapper »

I want it to be done, before I disappear... :)
BTW: My Framework is much easier to extend then crystal space :)

Work done
- Additional edit modes for multiple tiles
- Welding code corrected :D
- Added special edit-modes for setting FX and textures for multiple tiles
- Edit-Mode is now switched in the 'Properties'-Dialog

Next work
- Choosing multiple fans
- Choosing multiple fans sets flags/textures, if special edit-mode is chosen
- Browsing passages
- Browsing passages and spawn points

Known bugs: Still some troubles with the uv-values for textures of walls (The vertices for the 'Inner edges' are correct but not the texturing)

Question
What does the current version still lack to be usable for you?
I think it's worth a first offer as download if choosing of multiple tiles work and 'welding' of vertices of adjacent tiles work.

Side note: I think I create an example level, as soon as I think, the first main step is done.

- Wrong tiles created by 'simple mode' can be fixed with 'free' mode
- Choosing multiple fans sets flags/textures, if special edit-mode is chosen
- Work directory can be set by configuration file
- 2D-Map has grid overlay for help by map creation

Next work
- Browsing passages
- Browsing passages and spawn points

Known bugs:
- Still some troubles with the uv-values for textures of walls (The vertices for the 'Inner edges' are correct but not the texturing)
- Pattern recognition for 'simple mode' is still not perfect
- Choosing multiple tiles works only after first a single tile is chosen

Question
What does the current version still lack to be usable for you?

I guess when you can properly create a map with the editor without too much hassle then it should be complete for a first version release.

Maybe we should package the editor along with Egoboo 2.8.1 for windows if it is finished enough by then.

I hope I'll have it done until Version 2.8.1

Work left (for basic version)
- None

Work done
- Display of chosen tile type at chosen position in 'free tile mode'
- A simple documentation
- Setting wall tiles in 'simple mode' (adjust adjacent wall tiles)

PS: Please test the handling. Thank you.

Side note
Because this map editor uses only one wall type for Inner-Edge', 'Outer-Edge' und 'Straight-Wall', there is only one texture needed per tile type. Thus, there can be more different textures for the walls :D

IMHO the first step is done :D

Work planned
- Some polishing of the interface
- Better display of map in 3D-View (Based on visibility)
- Browsing / editing passages
- Browsing / editing spawn points
- Choosing tiles in 3D-View

Question[
- What possibilities should be added next ?

Maybe we should post a version here so that windows users can test it?

Good idea. It would be good to have feedback from practical use of this editor.

It would be nice if somebody could help with the How-To documentation, based on the tests.

Developement

Post by bitnapper »

I had stopped the development of the new editor because I was sick for a few weeks :(
I plan to start to add further functionality from begin of december.

Question
Has anybody time to test the functionality of the actual state ? I'd be glad to have some feedback.

We are almost done with Egoboo 2.8.1 for a beta test release, maybe we could do a joint release?

I'd just like to say, I really appreciate what you're doing here Bitnapper. The main reason why I haven't finished any of the 5+ modules I've started over the years is because Egomap is such a pain in the behind.

Cheers and godspeed. :cookie:

Recovery

Post by bitnapper »

Sorry, I still need some more time to recover :(

But be shure that I'll add further functionality as soon as I'm well again.

I'll plan to do further work:

Klicking in 3D-Window for choosing tiles instead of Map-Window.
Maybe editing of vertices.
Needs a lot of work and testig to be done.

In the meantime, I still follow the discussions here on the forum.
