Geez. Call getting hit "not doing it right" or "doing it wrong", what's the difference?Agent of Dread wrote:That point of view is drastically different to.Shade wrote:You're already doing it wrong if you actually get hit in the first place
Getting hit is a mistake. Egoboo just allows you to make multiple mistakes before you fail the level.
And it does not at all change the fact that distracting a boss in order to run away is pointless.

Running away wouldn't necessarily be pointless if there'd be "bosses" which you can't beat. But since there aren't, even though I think it'd be epicly awesome...Shade wrote:And it does not at all change the fact that distracting a boss in order to run away is pointless.

Re: Zambini's Spell Development Thread
If we have a level with a continuous chase, kind of like an Advancing Wall of Doom boss, and the distract spell could slow it down so you could catch extras or secrets. P:

Last I knew, the Bind spell existed.
Re: Zambini's Spell Development Thread
Just some little idea: How about some sort of back dash?Shade wrote:You're already doing it wrong if you actually get hit in the first place.
I know that you're a little reluctant to add new keys, but it would be nice to actually have a way of evading attacks other than jiggling around wildly, running backwards or killing enemies instantly.

Both Skull Wall, Sword Wall and Bind spell exist to give you a breather. Haste spell could also help.
Re: Zambini's Spell Development Thread
Sword Wall's purpose is to give the player a breather? ...in retrospect, it makes sense, as that's exactly what the name implies, but... Judging from what the spell does in-game, I used to think it was just a particularly sucky magical melee attack with horrid range.Zefz wrote:Both Skull Wall, Sword Wall and Bind spell exist to give you a breather.

I feel like a troll turned good (as in, I start arguments that are actually constructive)...[/offtopic]
But by "breather" I mean "an amount of time no shorter than 15 seconds", enough time to recompose your thoughts and make a plan or two. Sure, Sword Wall is good, and I understand that potions don't take long to whip out, but anyone can do that, and the advantage of a distraction/give-me-a-breather spell is that it gives you MORE time in which to prepare or re-prepare.

Re: Zambini's Spell Development Thread
What would stop you from simply pounding the distracted target to paste in those "no less than 15 seconds"? That's right, nothing. It'd be ridiculously overpowered.
The Bind spell is already incredible enough as it is and fulfills a similar enough purpose.
(Besides, if you've got a lot of mana, you actually already can bind a target for more than 15 seconds.)

Alright, fine, we add a limitation to the distract spell: attacking a monster un-distracts it.Shade wrote:What would stop you from simply pounding the distracted target to paste in those "no less than 15 seconds"? That's right, nothing. It'd be ridiculously overpowered.

Re: Zambini's Spell Development Thread
As far as I'm aware, this is not currently possible, considering the way scripts and enchantments work.Maxaxle wrote:Alright, fine, we add a limitation to the distract spell: attacking a monster un-distracts it.Shade wrote:What would stop you from simply pounding the distracted target to paste in those "no less than 15 seconds"? And seriously, we have the Bind spell. Why do we need another spell that fulfills much the same purpose?
