Egoboo-ified?
Jiigawatts, like Jiive Elf!

Celebrities don't fit in that category well. And about the H1N1, aleco, the point is that everybody knows about it because of the recent outbreaks of it.

...hmm.... potion of sickness. a_potion_marked_N1H1 or something like that. Oh, and whereever you get it there could be something that mentions "when pigs fly", although that would give it more away. The when pigs fly and swine flu joke is fun.

I never understood why Jive was spelled with two "I"s; it seemed really strange. So I changed it.
Unless it's been changed back since then.

That would be pretty dumb.
The things we mention indirectly should be from varied works of fiction and such. And they should be timeless.

In two years, nobody's going to remember what H1N1 was.

Why can't a dodo be a spam king? :P
If you want some more references: What about
-an elf who complains about the fact that there are no elephants to insta-kill with an arrow
-a snarky shapeshifting djinni demon who prefers being a gargoyle
-a friendly talking Ulna named Derek
-a g'nome boy called Wilbur who asks you why g'nomes can't become mages
-a villager with a D20, who thinks that the item allows him to score crits
-a character who classifies the game in tropes and SpeaksInWikiWords because he doesn't know that hyperlinks doesn't work in his RealLife

No, Legolas killed a mumak with a single arrow in LotR. (not sure anymore if it was in the book, but I know it's a popular scene in the film.)
