Octy's art (?) corner

Post by octagon »

I decided to start this thread to have a place to put my artwork and stuff into.

I tried to make some digital artwork today.

I know the hands are not good, but blame my tabletlessness.

He just is fat. I didn't even plan him to, I just accidentally drew his body slightly oversized.

He's so fat, the buttons on his shirt moved 10 centimeters to the right on their friggin' own. :D

Or it's just the perspective. It's irritating how three-dimensional he looks.

What program did you use for this? GIMP?

Indeed. GIMP offers quite an amount of useful features. Even though I don't know how I can do spray shading with GIMP... :?

You should verse yourself in layers, it will move you forward a surprising distance. Multiplying layers and all that. It helps not have those antialiasing lines too.

I thought I would know about layers sufficiently from my mother...

but still... how does multiplying layers help to avoid antialiasing lines?
The lines exist because I didn't exactly adjust the size of the head lines with the head itself... the way I made those lines was a pain in the ass... I selected a circle, then I subtracted another smaller circle from the selection and filled the selection with black. And the selection happened to be ~2 pixels big.

Multiplying won't help you with the antialiasing, but having layers helps you fill shapes better, you can go under the lines on layers above it for the cleanest cut.

I even use ~10 different layers, but somehow I still didn't do that. Gotta do that later.

Want to take one of my .psd files to study? Pretty sure Gimp reads them, although whether it does the clipping masks I love to abuse I'm not sure.

It should open them. People say that GIMP would be fully compatible with .psd files, even though I'm not sure if that is entirely true.

Well it doesn't support layer 'folders', I know that from experience, but I'll upload one when I'm on my laptop.
