"Fan Stories"

Post by bgbirdsey »

Since this is just one topic, maybe some short little blurbs could go here.

For instance, Squerkle had an interesting little story about the origin of the hobgoblins.

Here's a little "story" from Arakon's old site when they were developing zippy about how alchemy should work

Arakon wrote:The barbarian named Glog chopped the last remaining goblin down with his glowing axe. The glow slowly faded. The alchemist sheathed his short sword and rushed to the nearest dead goblin as the rest of the party secured the small chamber. He took a small case out of his backpack, and opened it to reveal several flasks, all well padded.

He proceeded to collect some goblin blood into one, and mixed it with another. Seera, a paladin from the northern realm grumbled, "We must hurry, Alchemist, before more come."

"Yes Seera, but this will help if the hordes follow..", he replied. Quietly, under his breath he mummbled, ".. silverthorn .. bat essence.. ahh.."

Everyone watched as the solution turned bright red, and then faded to a soft grey. Everyone watched as he careful let a drop of the liquid fall upon the goblin's corpse. The flesh of the goblin melted away as a light sizzling sound could be heard.

"I have enough for Seera's sword, Glog's axe, and 20 or so arrows,", the alchemest announced. The party gathered around to lace there weapons.

Here is the little blurb from Squerkle's Credits.txt file that comes with Shlegg the Hobgoblin

PurpleSquerkle wrote:As a race, the hobgoblins are rather cruel and nasty for the most part. They used to live in the aerial city of Acropolis, but the other residents banished them because of their violent nature. This crippled the hobgoblins for a while, but soon their civilization got started again down on the surface. Most hobgoblins hate humans, and hardly any are sympathetic to Lord Bishop, so the Hobgoblin High Council ordered that any goblin who sided with Lord Bishop and tried to rescue him would be hunted down and imprisoned -- or, if necessary, killed. There are still some who choose to fight for Lord Bishop, however, and they have fled from the hobgoblin city to seek others of their cause....

The hobgoblins sympathetic to Lord Bishop (so, naturally, any you play as) are not as evil as the others, and are, of course, more accepting of humans. That doesn't mean they're not tricky and violent, though... They're sort of like Rogues, I guess, except leaning much more towards violence than thievery. Of course, with so many monsters in the way, this is sort of a good thing, so goblins are generally accepted by the other heroes, though they aren't trusted very much. The elves in particular are uneasy around hobgoblins, as they're total opposites: The elves are lovers of calm and peace who like to be close to nature, whereas the hobgoblins are nasty and destructive, and use lots of fancy technology. Regarding the technology; it's very different than the stuff used by the g'nomes. While the g'nomes have steam-powered industrialized machinery and gunpowder weapons, the hobgoblins use strange, shiny, high-tech gadgets and gizmos. The technology is very similar to the Acrovian technology (which, of course, it came from), and isn't really as technological as you would think. The weapons, tools, and vehicles of the hobgoblins and Acrovians actually channel a latent energy hobgoblins and Acrobots possess naturally (presumably, the original builders of Acropolis possessed this power as well, but they disappeared long ago) which can be channeled by special devices... sort of like an internal electricity.
