New Website Design

Post by Zefz »

I would like a new website design for Egoboo. The current one is getting outdated and I have a lot of problems opening it in various browsers (Chrome, HTC Phone, linked through a different page, etc.)

Also, the current webpage is at a fixed resolution... it only covers half of the page (the rest is simply black).

This is a quick draft of a site I myself find more pleasant to visit: http://egoboo.webs.com/

Most visitors only check the site and never the forums. They visit the Egoboo site and never see any update and lose interest in our game. Bad!

Funky.
We could get someone to do a new update on the blog, too, just to fill in if Purple can't make it soon.

Yeah, I can quote birdsey's

There is no need for the new site design.

but that was a year ago (and the site has still not been updated! :)).

I think it is important to have a site template where we can easily update and add news without a lot of work. If it takes a lot of time and work to simply update the latest news, we will delay and try avoiding updating the website.

But the website is as stated earlier very important. It's the face of our community and project. It's what the world out there sees when they look at Egoboo. We have currently an average of 25 thousand site visits to that site every day.

Oh and 80 people still download Egoboo 2.7.4 everyday, only to discover it doesn't work properly! :(:(:(

I like Seanbot's design more. I think we're way past using Freewebs templates.

But apparently not past OSWD templates...
Though it did take me a while to get the buttons working.
Personally I don't think the website quite catches what egoboo is about, but, content should probably be first.

I don't really mind templates, neither do 90% of our users.

People want a clean and clear website where they can find out whatever they want quickly and if templates is a easy method to accomplish that, I say go for it. (unless someone with the skills wants to spend a lot of time to design the site).

Are there any volunteers to maintain/update the Egoboo website? I can give access to the project webpage as long as that person has a sourceforge account.

Let those 25 thousand people know we aren't dead :)

Whatever is done needs to be easily updatable and extensible. The fixed size is not good, but could we just re-format the existing one in % instead of pixels?

Ah yes, but... you see...
It's the face of our community and project. It's what the world out there sees when they look at Egoboo.

And that is why it's important that it is unique, and at least looks semi-professional, otherwise, a lot of people won't take us seriously.

90% of our users

Can SF actually track our visitor's thoughts or are you pulling numbers from out of your ass like I suspect you are? :P

My ass can perform wonders... No really, most people aren't that competent with computers and might not even know what a template is. But as you say, it's important as the face of our community, then someone needs to design the new site.

We can take a look at other open source game projects as an example (no, I'm not saying we copy them - but it seems pretty templaty):
